I just got the subcom titan in the mail like 10 minutes ago, and I was playing with it. I noticed that when closed it was completely off center, and then I touched the screw on the top pivot and it was completely loose. So I took the little key driver thing that came with it and tightened it up.... well I really didn't tighten it all that much, but now I can't open up the blade AT ALL D:< and I can't loosen the screw because it's now magically too tight.

What do I do???? D: ....This is making me really unhappy... I payed the knifes price in shipping and waited 2 weeks for it and I can't open the damn thing.

UPDATE: One of my friend managed to pull the blade out and we moved it around and it's loosened up a little. I can now take it out myself, still with difficulty though. I got a proper screw driver and bit to loosen the pivot - It's stuck in there and it's not going to loosen up. I tried the hot water idea and even got a stronger friend to try (lucky without stripping the screw) and still had no luck. It's stuck together. Also, when it's opened up, the lock bar does not engage AT ALL. Is is time to send it in? I only got it yesterday.

Hard to say what could be wrong. Are you mechanically inclined at all? If you aren't send the knife back.

Sorta... I sadly don't have any drivers that fit the screw properly so I can't loosen it with those and the key is too small in my hands to effectively loosen it without stripping the screw.

the screw cant be that tight, i have a subcom in front of me and tightened it up real tight just to see what happens and nothing happens, crank on it itll come loose, do you have greasy hands or something?

No because there may be some loctite in there that needs to loosen up.

Get a set of Wiha torx bits and you won't have this problem. The supplied wrench with the Subcom Ti is terrible; doesn't fit anything. You're going to need a good set of drivers anyway and buying the cheap hardware ones will just cost you more because they will crumble to pieces under normal use and strip your screws.

ok I'll try it.

The top screw doesn't look like it's sitting quite right.... It's not flush or even properly occupying the space it's supposed to sit in.

Actually if it's Loctite red, heating it will loosed it up. Standard gunsmith trick. You have to just touch a soldering iron tip or similar heating element just to the screw and not the entire knife.

I don't think I have any of that....

I tried calling boker usa but the service guy is out for the next two days :/

If it isn't sitting on there properly, there is a good chance the screw was misthreaded and is all kinds of jammed up in there. Might want to consider sending it back for an exchange if you can't get it apart.

I guess I get to spend that much more time without the knife I bought....

and ugh... looks like I'm looking at additional fees for being Canadian.... I am really unhappy right now.

If you want to loosen it , you'll need a good Torx set. Home depot sell one with a bunch of bits for a few bucks.

You can'enough downward pressure with the little wrench they send.

maybe use a product like kano kroil, for breaking loose locked up metal parts? ive had good luck breaking loose rusted together and frozen solid parts with is. it's nasty stuff though so use outside, with gloves, and very little.

whats probably happening is the pivot screw is spinning while your trying to loosen it. This might help. Grip the knife with your left hand and squeeze the blade INTO the handle. If you cant do that try and put the knife between your knees and pull on the blade while your trying to unscrew the screw. The purpose of this is your trying to put internal pressure on the pivot from within the knife so that it wont spin in its track while you turn the screw. Gripping the knife in the closed position might not work as the stop that prevents the blade from overtraveling might prevent pressure from being applied to the pivot. If you can force the blade out you could also try putting a small amount of lateral pressure on the blade to hole the pivot.

If neither of these work this might. You will need a mouse pad or a piece of hard flat rubber. You will need to clean it and the back of the pivot screw with alcohol so that they are clean and free of oils. Place the knife on the rubber so that the back of the pivot screw side of the knife is on the rubber mat. Then use your torx driver and unscrew the screw while applying downward pressure. What your trying to do is have the screw make contact with the rubber and have the rubber grip the screw and prevent it from spinning while you try and turn it. DO NOT SPRAY ANY LUBRICANTS in the pivot to try and loosen it up. All you will do is lubricate the pivot and it will make your loosening issue even worse. What would be better would be to actually use a brake cleaner or electrical contact cleaner that is safe on synthetics and spray that in the pivot to infact remove oil that is aiding the bolt to spin. This is really why I wish knife companies would wake up and either use a hexagonal pivot bolt end like kershaw or some other type of pivot screw that cannot rotate inside its seat.

Do you recall how the screw felt when you tightened it? Meaning, did you feel any resistance and kept on going anyway. If so, you might have cross threaded the screw. If you can't apply enough torque with the provided tool without stripping it, you could use a vise grip and grip the head of the screw and try to extract it that way. It's not gonna be pretty and will most likely mar the screw head and scratch the surrounding surface of the ti scale. Good luck and hope you get it sorted out.
