Just got my case of Crystal Hot Sauce. Dag, 12 bottles for under $24 shipped.

The drought is over!!!

They were down after Katrina, but the wait is over.

To me, it is the best flavored hot sauce. Good flavor, right amount of heat for mass consumption.

I've been through the quest for "burn your face off" hot, and came back and settled on this stuff.

Anyone else familiar with it??

I have some in my cupboard but my daughter prefers plain old Tabasco. Crystal is available in almost all the supermarkets here in So Calif.

when I was in....vast preference for tobasco, personally, I think Crystal tastes like backwash...sorry.:(

Best Regards,

I like Tapatio myself. My girlfriend loves Cholula. Thankfully most Mexican restaurants I go to have both.

Have you ever tried IG's home brew?

If you survive, it will 'raise the bar' for this sort of thing...:D

I second a vote for Tapatio. but have found the chipotle tabasco to be a great improvement on the regular version, and much tastier!

I like them all! I tend to not cook with Tabasco much because of the strong fermented flavor that some folks don't like (namely, the Wife). So I cook with Crystal (didn't know they were down), Frank's, or Louisianna brand and save the Tabasco for the table.

Tapatio is good, better than Cholula, but only good on Mexican food. I also use the green Tabasco for Mexican food. It's got a great flavor without the heat or fermented flavor of the original.

Tabasco. Yup, Tabasco. I put it on(in the words of Dan Akroyd) "everything humans can consume." Makes for some rough mornings, though(come on, ice cream!).

I had this stuff at a restaraunt, named Chipotle, and it actually made their "cuisine" palatable. Now I bring it whenever the MREs pop out of those evil boxes with the croissants on them, makes most meals enjoyable , with the exception of enchilada and the omelette :barf:

IMO frank is kinda blah, regular tobasco is OK, I like cholulah. I make a big puddle of it to dip my cheese steak in.

Cholula is a gift from God... Tapatio will work when there is nothing else, otherwise it cant begin to live up to it's more expensive brother , Cholula.

but it is not in the same category as Crystal ,Trappey's Red Devil and Tobasco which are all "Loosiana" style sauces.

IMO Crystal is the better tasting of the above three ( with Red Devil coming in second ) and i'm sure there are many I have not tried.
I dont know , Tobasco is so... played. I mean I will use it and who does not have a bottle sitting in their cupboard but it's just so , normal. For want of a better word.

Overall though , this is the stuff, the mana from Heaven.

this is good stuff.

I like Cholula too, My current favorite is Onion Jack's Habanero Sauce from Bermuda. It has a roasted pepper flavor. Even though it contains habanero, it is not one of those ridiculously hot sauces - it has a lot of roasted and sweet peppers in it for a good balance.

That sauce actually sounds tasty Mycroftt.

A good buddy of mine collects hot sauces and delights to expose his friends to things that will leave permanent scars on the tongue , those kind of hot sauces are a big turn off to me.
hot sauce should compliment food , not turn it into a possible emergency room visit. :p
