This is the A.G. Russell AGSA-2 I found in a closet last fall. About 4.125" closed. Main serrated blade is 2.75". Slabs are boiled bone. Steel is Japanese stainless. Not sure which stainless. Never used/carried. Bought it years ago to use as a gift but still have it.

Free to a good home to one who regularly participates in the Traditionals forum beyond GAWs. Just post a pic of some of your rope or line work or your watercraft, or you marlin spike collection, etc.

This is a nice knife. No longer produced. I'd simply ask the recipient to not flip it. If it just isn't for you, please don't say you are in. If you are selected to receive it and then discover it isn't for you, I simply ask you give it away to someone who would use it vs. selling it or trading it. After all, it was given to you freely.

Here's a simple splice I did with rope I made as a very young teen in the Boy Scouts. Have kept it all these years.

I'm in and thanks for the chance. I shouldn't have it because I have some already, but I still want it.

Somewhere I have the lanyard I made for that CG knife: two perfect eye-splices with no funny lumps, on one line.
Can't find the lanyard, but I took a pic of a splice I made.

There, I'm done.

Not an entry because that knife, though very interesting and unique, doesn't really float my boat (and I'm pretty much a landlubber anyway). But thanks for the GAW, leghog; I'm going to think of it as the New Gramps GAW!:thumbup::D Your spliced rope is cool, too. And FWIW, I completely agree with your attitude about gifted knives. I mean, when I'm gifted a knife I think it's mine to do with what I want, but I've never even considered parting with a knife I've been given. Call me a sentimental fool (you can even drop "sentimental" if you want). :p

A kind offer Leghog  Much as I like a sailor's knife, I'll pass in favour of someone else enjoying this one

I was once lucky enough to visit a rope factory, and there was an old feller splicing ropes for big ships, the ropes were HUGE! Highlight of the visit was probably the testing lab, where the ropes are tested to destruction. In one test where the ropes are pulled apart, they made a noise like a rifle shot as they finally broke.

This is an entry. I look for marlin spike knives on the bay once and a while.

Last call. Looks like there is almost no interest which is good for the participants since, as it now stands, they have a 50% chance of winning this knife. I'll pick a winner sometime in the next 24 hours.

I may not be eligible seeing as how I have no boat, and the best knots I tie are in my laces as I'm trying to take off my boots. However a couple of dear friends are boatmen who would definitely appreciate this knife and use it well. One sails and one fishes. Both are always rigging with rope.

Cool knife.

I'd be in for that beauty.

not sure about rope work. I've taught the knot tying merit badge. I have it my self. But I don't think I have any rope work pics.

I'm an Eagle Scout, and just finished up 10 years as a scout leader.

I'll combine the Scout angle and the boat angle for my pics.

Here is my own family in the canoe.

I have a couple. A Buck 315 and a loosy goosy Schrade. Since I like the pattern, if I'm in time, I'm in.

This is not an entry, as I don't have a use for the knife shown, but thanks for your generous GAW.

Here are some of my boat-related knives and tools.

The folders: Two WW2 vintage rigger's clasp knives - a Canadian forces issue Case XX and a British style, maker unknown. Also (traditionalists avert your eyes) a Wichard knife, my current user.

Other tools: a rigger's sheath knife that I made a few years ago from a Lee Valley blade, an applewood fid, and a marlinespike that I made from an old "perfect handle" screwdriver. Top, a Brummel eye splice in Dyneema.

Leg, Very generous offer, no entry from me as I have a "couple" of the Buck 315 Marlinspike's.

Big, Wanted to say thanks for making a difference and being a role model. Your doing what more of us should be doing. Teaching young men and women outdoor skills along with a code for living that has stood the test of time. And to always, BE PREPARED.

edbeau, please email me your snail mail address and I'll get the knife in the mail to you. Thanks.

Congrats, edbeau, on adding a new knife to what looks to me to be an impressive collection!:thumbup:
Thanks for the GAW, leghog; interesting knives shown in this thread.

Congratulations Ed, and thanks again for the giveaway Leghog

I received the knife today and it looks better in person. It is quite a knife and you have to watch for those teeth on the blade. Thank You for the knife and for the chance to get it.
