I am looking for a small fixed blade/neck knife and I've pretty much narrowed it down to two that I really like: RW Clark Aikuchi and the Ivan Campos Kiridashi. What are the pros and cons to either knife and which would you pick? Also, if you are willing to part with yours, just let me know;)
Thanks,
Matt

I have owned one of Ivan's knives and it was built like a tank, had great balance and looked very nice. He has also learned to make a much better sheath than when I got my knife.

Never having owned one of Ron's knives I really can't make a personal observation about them. However, I sure like the way they look and from what I have read, others seem to really like his knives.

Ivan's knives are not finished to the degree that Ron's are. That is done on purpose. He seems to prefer a finish that is not taken to as high a grit.

i have one of ivans knives (titanium blade) see:

ist is very nicely finished and scary sharp! i would recommend Ivan above all others! (great prices too!)

I have no experience with RW's knives so I can't offer a comparison. However, I do have a couple of Ivan's -- a slim fighter & a tanto (pix on the fixed blade page of my "Toys" site) -- with a third on the way. The slim fighter has a nice horizontal polish while the tanto's blade is etched, more of a field finish. The handle wraps on both are impeccable & the sheaths are very nicely done as well. (The slim fighter's is lined with velvet which makes for a particularly smooth & silent draw.)

Also, a friend has one of Ivan's Kiridashis made from 6 mm thick K-100 steel. Although the blade is short, this is not a flimsy little utility piece. The thick steel gives it a nice amount of heft and the full size handle makes for a very secure grip.

It looks like RW makes some nice knives but I know that Ivan does. I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

since you asked, i have had both side by side, RWs is finer fit and finish and nicer kydex work.

Amen! My Mini Aikuchi is the best little tanto I have ever encountered. I know Ivans stuff is wonderull, but I only have owned The Clark so far.

Ivan Campos makes a good knife:thumbup:

What's the difference between an "aikuchi" and a "kiridashi"???

From my understanding, your query is comparing two totally different tools...

The only pic so far, of one of Ivan's, is of an "aikuchi"- style tanto/knife with what would appear to be a chisel grind.

As I understand it, the term "kiridashi" refers to a tool that looks more like a chisel grind chisel style knife (or tool.)http://customtacticals.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/mcgowan_kiridashi_01.jpg

Just curious if this is understood or I'm just confused as to the original request for opinions???

If so, sorry for getting off track! :o

This ancient thread was resurrected in a pathetic attempt by a Banned knife Maker, Charlatan and all around no goodnick.

There is nothing new here, please start a new thread concerning these types of knives - I think Mr. Campos deserves one as he is a very talented Maker!

:o Sorry... I didn't see anything but the original question and was snagged by the difference between apples and babanas... my bad, and failing eyesight!:(
