Recent bad news about the health of my father has been making it hard for me to focus. Yesterday I just needed to just get out and find something to occupy my mind. I went to check the P.O. Box first because I had ordered a new green nanostriker XL and knew it was there by tracking number. What I was surprised to find in the box was the ESEE-6 and molle back that I had ordered from Dale at The-Knife-Connection either Friday evening or Saturday morning. I couldn't believe it made it here by Monday. This makes the second order from T-K-C and both times the customer service interaction and delivery times have been phenomenal!
The controlled burn of an area of the mountain is still going, two days now.
Just put new tires on the truck, man haven't bought tires for the truck in almost 4 years since I first got the truck and damn tire prices are enough to hurt your feelings. Nothing special, just regular Firestone all-terrains and they were nearly $1,000.00 mounted, balanced, tax, disposal of old tires, road hazard and all. Would have been about $150.00 or so cheaper at our local Wally world...but I felt $150.00 worth of good for not furthering their cause and not dealing with the people there that are always miserable and can seldom answer any of my questions. To me it was worth the little bit extra to deal with friends and to support a locally owned business.
The new ESEE-6. I had been considering getting one of these since I read an article on them when they first came out. Meant to get one at Blade last year but that didn't happen. I'm getting ready to head to some southern swamps in a few months so I thought I'd get one and see how it does. Maybe pack it along as my backup (or control) knife while I am testing out the other tools I am taking. That way I don't have that bothersome but it's my only knife thing running through my head while I am testing. The knife feels good, but I'm really liking the sheath with their molle back. I'll be glad when the khaki accessory pouch comes in. I like how flat grinds handle brier vines and soft green plant life.
I'm really liking the green nano, looking forward to the green matchcap Xls being available again, I missed out on the first batch.
Mainly I just wondered around aimlessly, seeing what I could find and enjoying the open spaces my father first introduced me too about 40 years ago.
Ran across more stacks and more scat on one of the closed off gravel-and-dirt side roads. It's funny, years ago there were no signs of coyotes in this area and fox scat seemed to be on every other stump, rock, or log I came across. Now there is coyote sign everywhere and it's been several years since the last time I saw fox scat.
As usual lots of resin rich fatwood around. On a dry day like this there were plenty of other materials had I wished to start a fire though. I just made mental notes of the area.
Whittling fine shavings wasn't a problem...not whittling them off the stick was...
As seems to be a habit of mine, I aimlessly wondered my way to one of the little rain collection ponds. Some of the frog egg sacks are changing color and the contents in some of them are changing as well. I'll have to go back later and check them out for changes.
