Recent bad news about the health of my father has been making it hard for me to focus. Yesterday I just needed to just get out and find something to occupy my mind. I went to check the P.O. Box first because I had ordered a new green nanostriker XL and knew it was there by tracking number. What I was surprised to find in the box was the ESEE-6 and molle back that I had ordered from Dale at The-Knife-Connection either Friday evening or Saturday morning. I couldn't believe it made it here by Monday. This makes the second order from T-K-C and both times the customer service interaction and delivery times have been phenomenal!

The controlled burn of an area of the mountain is still going, two days now.

Just put new tires on the truck, man haven't bought tires for the truck in almost 4 years since I first got the truck and damn tire prices are enough to hurt your feelings. Nothing special, just regular Firestone all-terrains and they were nearly $1,000.00 mounted, balanced, tax, disposal of old tires, road hazard and all. Would have been about $150.00 or so cheaper at our local Wally world...but I felt $150.00 worth of good for not furthering their cause and not dealing with the people there that are always miserable and can seldom answer any of my questions. To me it was worth the little bit extra to deal with friends and to support a locally owned business.

The new ESEE-6. I had been considering getting one of these since I read an article on them when they first came out. Meant to get one at Blade last year but that didn't happen. I'm getting ready to head to some southern swamps in a few months so I thought I'd get one and see how it does. Maybe pack it along as my backup (or control) knife while I am testing out the other tools I am taking. That way I don't have that bothersome “but it's my only knife” thing running through my head while I am testing. The knife feels good, but I'm really liking the sheath with their molle back. I'll be glad when the khaki accessory pouch comes in. I like how flat grinds handle brier vines and soft green plant life.

I'm really liking the green nano, looking forward to the green matchcap Xls being available again, I missed out on the first batch.

Mainly I just wondered around aimlessly, seeing what I could find and enjoying the open spaces my father first introduced me too about 40 years ago.

Ran across more stacks and more scat on one of the closed off gravel-and-dirt side roads. It's funny, years ago there were no signs of coyotes in this area and fox scat seemed to be on every other stump, rock, or log I came across. Now there is coyote sign everywhere and it's been several years since the last time I saw fox scat.

As usual lots of resin rich fatwood around. On a dry day like this there were plenty of other materials had I wished to start a fire though. I just made mental notes of the area.

Whittling fine shavings wasn't a problem...not whittling them off the stick was...

As seems to be a habit of mine, I aimlessly wondered my way to one of the little rain collection ponds. Some of the frog egg sacks are changing color and the contents in some of them are changing as well. I'll have to go back later and check them out for changes.

Good luck with your father bud, family is #1. I didn't know that the 6 sheath had a flap that folded over the top !? Trying to avoid it temporarily because I have more than enough blades now. But I see a 6 coming my way eventualy. It is inevitable. Love the pics, the lone bare trees kind of set a light melancholy tone, considering your fathers health.

Thanks man. Yeah, we wondered these woods together in the winter time hunting a lot when I was a kid. The bareness of winter is taking on a different feel at the moment.

The 6 is sweet, but as with some other ESEEs I have I'm liking the sheath and carry system even more than the knife itself.

Sending smoke for your pa Misty.

Thanks for taking time with the photos, what with it all.

Is the nest a mouse nest or a birds? it looks like a field mouse nest....from what I remember. Not sure if you have them your way.

Strange looking frog sacks too. I'm surprised they've weathered....especially if these are the ones you pictured frozen the other week.

You need to get some forest green tights to match that nano amigo

Hope all goes well with your Dad. Your pics remind me of my place in the Ozarks. Miss spending hours wondering aimlessly about..now hemmed in the burbs.
Best of luck,

sorry to hear about your dad's health problem, man. that esee-6 was a tad too close to the scat i think, haha.

Thanks Scruff. My photography is actually therapeutic for me. We have field mice...but never seen them nest in a tree here...maybe though. Yep those are some of the same ones that were frozen in a previous post, they look a lot different now.

Lol, I'll not be running around in tights any time soon, I haven't drank that much since I was a teenager :)

Best of luck,

Yeah, I really missed this place when I was stuck in Miami...but then I discovered hiking and boating in the glades so that was cool.

It wasn't touching it...it just looks like it was...

Thanks for all of the well wishes fellas. Dad is getting ready to set off on his final journey in this life...nothing can be done about that now. I spent the day yesterday wondering through the first woods he took me to, and spent a lot of time remembering earlier conversations, I'm glad those memories are still so clear. Today I picked the little one up at school and we went and got burgers fries and milkshakes to go like dad and I would sometimes do after school when I was little and we just sat and talked about her day. She has unfortunately never met him, and she has as of yet no idea what is happening now. I don't want her only memories and visual images of the man to be as he is now, so I'm still undecided on what to say or do, but I sure do hope I can make her childhood memories as good as the ones I hold dear.

Sorry to hear about your father buddy !

Great pics as always, you have the knack of making every knife you post appear awesome causing me to want one !
I'm not really a big fan of ESEE knives except for the Junglas which I always drool over, your post however makes the ESEE 6 look pretty tempting as well !!!

Sorry to hear about your dad's health. My father introduced me to the woods when i was a kid and spent several hours a week tramping through looking for fatwood and arrowheads. I can't wait until i have a son or daughter to share those times and memories with. I had a esse 6 but gave it to a buddy of mine that asked to see it every time he came around. I carry my Swamp Rat RMD now in the woods or my Blindhorse pathfinder. Great pics, buddy! Best wishes to your father...

Hey brother, I just got your email. You, your father, and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for sharing the photos. They look just like the woods back home

Thanks bro, it's just one of those things we know that we have no choice but to deal with but are never prepared to do it.

Dude, I didn't even do anything with it yet. If it speaks to you that much already maybe your just like me and several other people who like the design :) The Junglas is nice, but I don't think I need anything else that big right now.

Thanks man. Yeah, I enjoy taking the kids to the woods, even the oldest who is actually grown now.

Thanks bro, I appreciate that. And I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. Oh, and you were definitely right about the 6.
