I've searched around here and see alot of folks are interested in air guns. I'm thinking of buying a Beeman R9 Goldfinger. Does anyone have one?

Any good links to air gun forums?

I do not, but I do have a few RWS air rifles. You may want to consider one of these?

also go to straightshooters site for good info and lots of guns available!

oh yea, the R9/Goldfinger is a great gun. and if you get REALLY into it, you can send it out to Russ Best for a "BestTune" and it will be as smooth as butter and even last longer and be more consistent!! His work is top notch!! Read around hth

I agree. A Beeman R9 is a very nice and hard-hitting airgun. I also have airguns above and below that price. The R9 has a better trigger than the RWS guns. If the power isn't all that matters, seriously consider the Beeman R7. It's lighter, easier to cock, and less 'hold-sensitive.' I use mine more than my R9 (by far). With good shot placement, an R7 can kill most vermin at reasonable range. Straightshooters.com was mentioned and I also recommend them. They sell good products (no Crosman or Daisy, for example) and have good advice.

Good shooting,
David

I have an R1 and it's a heavy SOB, but It's a meat gettin' machine. That said, the R9 is less cumbersome and has a bit better trigger.

The Beeman R9 is, in fact, a badge-engineered Weihrauch rifle, made in Germany.

Weihrauch make some of the best sporting air rifles in the world ( I own a Weihrauch 77 in .177" myself, and used it to put a feral pigeon in the 'fridge just yesterday!)

Its Rekord trigger is renowned as one of the best available.

Here's a link to an excellent UK shooting forum:

You guys eat pigeons over the pond there? Feral pigeons, like the birds in the cities?

Stay away from city pigeons - too much chance of disease ! Few people today know that farmers often raised pigeons and doves for food.Breast of dove on toast makes a fine lunch.

Of course we have a famous dovecote in Birmingham:

I go to airguninfo.com, the "yellow forum", and straightshooters.com forums for to get all the lastest info about air guns. I've heard good things about the R9 Goldfinger and you should be happy with that one. I've bought my two air guns (FX Cyclone and Webley Patriot) from PyramydAir. Straightshooters.com has high marks for service as with Pomona Airguns. I think all of these vendors have the R9. I like my Patriot (spring air gun) but my FX Cyclone is so nice to shoot (precharged pneumatic) with almost no recoil and high performance/power. Start up cost on a PCP setup is high but to me it is worth it in regards to performance, accuracy, multi shot mags.

Thanks for the reply. Power doesn't really matter that much at all. 99% of my shooting will be plinking and informal target shooting. My "problem" which isn't really a problem is that I can get the R9 Goldfinger set up for less than a similarly set up R7, even though the R7 sounds just right for what I want to do. The R9 sounds great. I wouldn't pay more for the added power that I don't need, but if I can get it for actually less, it seems nuts not to buy it.

Also, I wonder if the R9 would overpenetrate on my backstop, which now consists of plywood and carpet.

That you will have to determine! But if your finding a complete R9 (with decent scope I would believe?) for a good price, you should be happy with it for a very long time. I usually lean toward a "better" scope as opposed to a cheaper one, buying up rather than average. just my view (no pun) good luck and enjoy!

Benjamin Sheridan and Crosman only for me, not by choice, thats just all I've ever played with. Was going to get a Gamo Shadow, but never got around to it, found out recently there is a recall going on. Check out www.airgunforum.net. Tons of links.

For what it's worth, I shoot my R7 a lot more than my R9. It's so much easier to shoot accurately and it's a lot easier to cock. I know some people get tired of cocking guns like the R9.

Good shooting,
David

thanks for the replies. I'm thinking I'm heading for an R7, for my purposes. I've started saving my pennies. I'm looking forward to it. I'm working on selecting a scope. I'm looking at a Bushnell Banner. I've got several Bushnells and they are not bad.

Anybody ever had a Leapers or a Swift scope?

Shann

I have an R9 Goldfinger. Fantastic air rifle. I am still amazed by how much a decent trigger can improve your shooting. Mine is .20 caliber. Came with a scope, Bushnell Banner scope (wide-angle, waterproof, 4x12 zoom), no iron sights. No problems with cocking the action...was a little stiff at initial break but broke in nicely.
