I went through a lot of air mattresses in the last couple years. The most comfortable were the Aerobeds, and they sell a good queen at Costco. I had a few problems with them, but I must say I may have been partly responsible. I was remodeling at the time, and I would only have problems when I left town for a while and came back. I would always partially uninflate the mattress before I left, and when I came back, the thing would have a leak. Fortunately with Costco, I just took it back and got a new one.
They are very well made, and as I said, the absolute most comfortable that I've tried out of all the brands. When I say I went through a lot of air mattresses, I'm not kidding. Through remodeling, in-law visits, etc. etc. I went through Aerobeds, Colemans, Sealy's, Eddy Bauer's and one more brand I can't think of. The Aerobed had the best inflation system, normal height, and was the quietest while on the bed. If you move around in your sleep, sleep with someone else (even a dog...especially a dog) then that makes a big difference. Some of the air beds I tried like the Sealy were comfortable, but loud as hell.
All that said, I got sick of the nagging little leaks in the Aerobeds. It would always happen after I came in from a long drive, get in the bed in the middle of the night exhausted with stuff to do the next couple days, and I would wake up a few hours later with my butt touching the floor. It could have been any number of things that caused the problem, and could have been my fault. I don't honestly know. I started to feel like an abuser of Costco's return policy after 3 returns, so I went to Target and bought a Coleman Pillowtop airbed.
And that's the most reliable one I have had. Not the most comfortable, the height is not great, the inflation system is second best to the Aerobed, and it's significantly louder while sleeping. But, it held up incredibly well until my dog and I were wrestling one day and I think he scratched the side of the bed. I called Coleman, and they had me literally butcher the bed to send in the pump, the logo off the side of the bed, etc. for warranty. They will send me a new bed.
So from my experience, if you are looking for a rock solid bed that won't give you a perfect night's sleep but will do the job when you pull it out of the closet for the mother in law, get the Coleman.
If you want a bed that is possibly more comfortable than your regular bed (I'm not kidding) but is not as bomb-proof, get the Aerobed. It's important for me to mention that the Aerobed queen they sell at Costco has been updated to a newer design, it's VERY possible they've solved all the durability issues. Costco is very good at taking user feedback and passing it on, in my experience, and the Aerobeds that Costco sells are exclusive to them.
p.s. Sealy had some comfortable beds, but the inflation system sucked so hard that I returned one after a few days, and the other one wouldn't inflate enough, so it felt like I was sleeping on a raft.
