Howdy folks! I'm thinkin' of gettin' myself one, got some rats and rabbits to shoot. Any ideas? I want something with 1200 + fps, .22 caliber, break barrel, no CO2.

P.S. Fell free to post pics of hot chicks and such, but PLEASE LEAVE THE BACON OUT! I'm sick of it! :D

I would look at the Gamo Hunter Extreme in .22 and the RWS 460.

Expensive but the "Whisper" is supposed to be great. Has a sound suppressor on the end and supposedly barely audible. Around $270 IIRC.

I seen a Ruger air rifle at Sport Authorities or Dick's I can't remember.. but it was .177caliber break over type for $149-169 I think...looked cool

It's a Ruger in name only. (Made in China ;) )

good to know,I did not look at it that closely ,air rifles are not my thing ,I like real guns, and for $150 I could buy a real one...I bought my Son a $50 crossman to learn on then a Rossi pump action .22LR($100) & Ruger 10/22 ($150) and plink away

In Britain you need a fire arms certificate for an air rifle over 12ftlb, I don't know how that equates to fps? Or what is legal in your country.

A 12ftlb air rifle is deemed suitable for legal air gun quarry, rabbits, rats, wood pigeon, rooks, magpies etc....

There are many makes of break barrel air rifles that will do the job for you. Gamo, BSA, Brocock, Weihrauch etc....

From theairguncentre in London you can buy a brand new BSA Supersport MK11, with Hawke mounts, a Hawke Eclipse 3-9x50 IR Mil-Dot scope, an AGC Case and 500 pellets for £257. I'm sure you'll find similar deals in other EU countries, perhaps they might be cheaper?

Here's my 8yr old nephew doing some target practice with my PCP Air Arms S310 (it's pre anti-tamper so if you know what you're doing you can tune it to FAC power, but that would be illegal to own without a fire arms license...).

I dont have any pics but I have a RWS model 48. It cocks using a side lever and shoot a .22 pellet at about 1,000 fps. I used it to kill lots of small game from squirrels to possums.

You might be better off with a .22LR though...All the .22 pellet guns that shoot in the 1,000 fps range really are not any quieter than a .22LR (if you can get one).

Thanks guys!
I like real guns too, but you can't imagine what it takes to buy a firearm around here. Tons of paperwork, tons of money for that paperwork, at least $1000 for a decent gun....and so on. And I NEED an RC3 MIL! F#*ck this recession!

You might even want to see if you can get your hands on a .25-caliber spring-powered air rifle. I'm not very positive about the range of a magnum .25-caliber, but as far as the smaller pellet calibers go, these will provide decisive power for dispatching small and medium-sized game.

Hi,

I've been in to airgunning for a long time and have owned quite a few very good rifles.
If you want a quality rifle you should go with Diana(RWS), Weihrauch or Air Arms.
The Weihrauch 97K is top notch, if you want to shoot with a scope.
If you want to shoot without scope try the Weihrauch 77K, it's the 97K's brother but with a different stock that is better suited for shooting with iron sights.

You say you want a rifle with 1200 fps, that is not important.
The accuracy is important, far more than the speed of the pellet.
For example, the RWS 350 Airmagnum, delivers lots of speed to the pellet, which will fly extremely hard past your target.

Even 800 fps will do the trick if you train and aim precisely at the head or heart/lung area.

Further, a breakbarrel will almost always be better in 4,5 mm(.177)
The trajectory of the bullet will be much more flat and therefore better on long distances.

A Webley Patriot is one of the few springers that performs fairly well in .22 even in .25, but that beast kicks like a mule!

If you want some real quality and shocking power though extreme accuracy, look at a PCP.
Here's a rifle I used to own.

That's a good vid, watch at 09.45 and 11.5, you'll see what I mean.

If you want some more info, let me hear ;)

Thanks Hornady, I'll look into it. What do you think about Gamo? They are widely available around here.

Gamo isn't known for it's outstanding quality but for starters some models would be fine.
I wouldn't go with a 1250 hunter, even though it shoots really hard.
Some better gamo models are oke, like the Gamo Hunter 440, the Gamo Shadow 640 and the Gamo CFX Royal.

For the same price however you might consider a HW(Hans Weihrauch) 50S.
That is an exellent rifle to start with, real acurrate and german quality.
Make sure it has the ''S'' in the name, then you get the 2 stage ''rekord'' trigger.
Those are some really good triggers!

I see. I just asked about Gamo because in just about every gunshop you ask about air rifles in Romania you get the same answer: Gamo. Personally I'd take German over Spanish anytime.

Yeah, me too ;)

Let me hear what you're choice is once you got it, some pictures would be cool too!

Greetings!
