Has anyone had a chance to play with one of these badboys?

http://www.airkatknives.com/FRAMELOCKS

Since these knives are pretty much made to order it has been very hard for me to find any info related to the quality of this knife. Going to a knife store to handle one is pretty much out of the question.

For the price, I want to make sure this blade can withstand the test of time and extreem use. I've been looking into purchasing a high quality folder, mostley considering a Strider SMG or SNG untill I stumbled onto the Airkats.
They sure look like their built like brick $%$# houses.

And I think it's one of the prettier folders out there. IMO

Thanks ahead of time for any help!!!

Now THAT is a knife..........jesus, I wish I had one of those here in friggin' Kabul. BTW, anyone traveling thru Baku, Azerbijian? look for my stolen Jim Burke folder and my GB that the secret police lifted from me.

This is Dwaine Carrillo's (Mr. AirKat) first folder and it is brand new! I just can't say enough about Dwaines work and from what I've heard this knife will not disapoint. He also stands 100% behind his work, I just have to drum up the cash this one is next on my list!

I ordered mine today :D I'll post a pic next to my SMF later, if anyone is interested.

Can't say anything about the knives because I haven't seen one for myself yet to hold, but I have spoken with Dwaine on email a few times and he answers his email (imagine that!) and seems like a really nice guy. His knives are crazy and his sheaths even crazier! Looking at the pics of the knives it definitely looks like he takes "big" to anothr level! His workmanship, based on the pics I have looked at on his website, looks excellent, to me, so I think if that style of knife is what you're after you are probably in good hands with Airkat. Let us know what you think after you buy one!

Great to see some info rolling in! Thanks a trillion!

I've started the whole old fashoned SAVING up of money to buy this nice piece of work. I'm hoping in a couple months I'll have the loot together.

One of the things thats beginning to stand out about this knife is the individual attention it receives. Mr. Carrillo may have some help in the shop but these knives are his babies alone.

Even Striders are reaching the semiproduction level. Not to say they lose they're quality in any way, but a little love put into something goes along way in my book.

Piece!

Good luck saving. I save for knives a lot, too, and then something comes up and I have to spend that money on something else! Doh!

just got my tripwire this week. i love this knife. dwaine's work is insane! while this big hunk of metal takes a bit of hand strength and practice to open it, the craftsmanship and engineering is amazing. shaves hair right off my arm, is extremely well balanced, and is beautiful to look at to boot! one word of caution though, i am finding carrillo stuff a bit addicitive and considering the price point, it's bound to start hurting. ive got #3 coming soon.

Those knives are awesome - got mine last Friday and have been admiring it ever since. Solid, thick, and sharp. Best part was Dwaine was very responsive and answered emails and calls same day. I would recommend his work to anyone, if you like the style.

I want one of those bad boys REAL bad!!! There are no words to describe how baaaaaad I want one. As soon as I can, I am going to order one!!

Come on guys...details, we need quick first impression reviews, clarify the statement about opening, is it smooth but tight etc.? Is the pivot smooth ? Lock up sound, you know what I mean, we need some details and a few specifics, I am looking hard at one of these also.

Thanks,

Robbie Roberson

They are freaking built like a tank! I have been able to handle a few and I was impressed. It is definitely on my list, and way up there.

His framelocks look like they are bank vaults. I don't care for Carrillo's designs in general (much too aggreesive) it is great to hear he makes a well built product and has good feedback.

well, the knives are certainly a piece of art and definitely beautiful to look at. as for smoothness, they are extremely smooth yet tight as you said. mine wasnt as stiff as my SMF before it was broken in ( god, there were plenty hours spent opening and closing ) where i damn near needed two hands to open it, but i can say that the lock up is so solid that you seriously need two hands to unlock the liner lock. the sound of lock up is loud and distinct and i would say that there is no mistaking that it is a very solid sound. surprisingly for the size and heft of the folder, the blade does feel like it glides open extremely nicely, so i guess you can say that the pivot is smooth as well. it feels great in the hand and everyone that i have shown it to has been extrememly impressed. im no knife reviewer, so i hope that helps.

Boy, does the model 8 scorpion looks mean.... and that scabbard
