Airline (in)Security?!?

Long time ago I remember seeing a friend out to the airport. Wasn't flying, but had to go past the security check. Put my change and my BM 910 in the metal items/change tray. Security guard picked up the knife, opened it up to see that the blade was less than 4", then returned it to me and let me go through. That was about two or three years ago. It's a shame that its so restrictive these days.

About a year ago, I wrote a letter to American Airlines asking them about their knives policy, and they told me it was their custom to allow knives only in checked baggage. I guess with the new FAA regulations, all the airlines are going to have to follow the same policy now... no more carry on pocket knives. :(
