I am flying to Las Vegas soon. I plan on taking my mini-grip. I am thinking( should'nt do that, I know) I could put it in the plastic bag-in cloth bag-in original box in my checked suitcase. Do I need to do all that or not? Also, does anyone know if the mini-grip will be legal in Vegas. What happens in Vegas does not stay in Vegas as far as my knife is concerned.
Thanks
Scott

Been to Vegas twice myself. Keep mini-grip inside of a pair of socks (preferably, dirty and smelly socks, LOL!) and stuff the socks into a pair of shoes in your checked luggage. This should prevent the TSA creeps from finding it and stealing it. Upon arrival in Vegas, claim your luggage and put the mini-grip in your pocket. All the way in the pocket! No clip showing. You will be fine. I used this technique the both times that I traveled there (with a 4" CS folder) and never had a problem. Good luck and enjoy your trip. Vegas is a fun town!

I'm less confident about you arriving at your destination and finding your knife still in your bag or suitcase. It isn't so much TSA stealing it, but anyone handling your bag along the way. Making it difficult to find helps. Use a bag or suitcase with a TSA-approved lock, and lock it. Also, avoid long layovers so you bag isn't sitting for a long time between planes.

If were me, I wouldn't take a knife I did not want to lose.

about the suitcase/checked luggage......already covered, by above. now the vegas part....here's what i found on clark county and vegas laws....

Nevada 202.320 & 202.350 & 202.355 Y ? Knife carry is legal but very little definition of what is legal. See NV Law.

Clark Co. NV.
ordinance...12.04.180, legal to carry < 3" cannot be concealed weapon of any description, including a knife with a blade of three inches

Henderson, NV
ordinance 8.98.010, legal to carry <3" blade length cannot be concealed

Las Vegas, NV.
definition more than an ordinance... 10.70.010, legal to carry <3" blade length cannot be concealed

ordinance 10.70.020 forbids loitering with a weapon concealed, while ordinance 10.70.030 prohibits fighting or disorderly while in possession.

N. Las Vegas, NV
ordinance 9.32.040, legal to carry <3" blade length cannot be concealed

so the mini-grip is under 3" i believe? likely legal to carry clipped or hidden in pocket, unless they have changed the ordinances from what i found online? always call the cities you will be in police and counties sheriff and state police and get their legal definitions. laws change constantly, better safe than sorry.

as usual be careful as casino security might be looking for clipped knives of any length and it's private property so you could be booted out. also police aren't always up to speed on every knife law, so if you get in a drunk stupor and cops show up? having a pocket knife of any kind is just going to make your life that much harder. so be smart, and if you go partying and drinking leave the knife in the suitcase, locked with your tsa approved lock.:) at the hotel.

as usual i am not a lawyer so take what i write for what it is, not legal help or advice.

Hi plainjoe -

I take my mini-grip and my Vic waiter with me every time I go to vegas - that is my vegas pack.

I have never had a problem - I do have a STR deep-carry clip in denim color, so it is not obvious.

I literally have been in every one of the big casinos with my grip - never a problem.

best regards -

I would not be too worried about loosing the knife if you hide it away in your checked bag (it's what I generally do). I understand that some casinos ban knives, and that LV city has some strict laws as well. But I think for the most part that if you're not doing anything wrong with your knife you shouldn't have any trouble.

Hey all, thanks for the info. Since I posted I also found the under 3" rule for Clark CO. and Vegas. I have considered taking the clip off and just putting it in my pocket. Haven't quite decided wich way I will go.
Thanks again

Take clip off and carry it completely concealed in your strong-side front trouser pocket. Trust me, it is the safest way to go. I noticed that most of the people on this forum who have gotten hassled or arrested by LEOs had their knives either clipped to their pockets or otherwise exposed to plain view. I carried my CS "Voyager", a 4" lockblade knife, completely concealed in Vegas both of the times that I was there. No one was the wiser. Pocket clips = trouble, IMHO, but to each his own.

Don't lock your luggage, the TSA will break it. Don't make your knife obvious in your luggage (no box etc) and hide it in something like a pants pocket. Use of one of the folded pairs of pants in your bag. Try to bury the item you placed your knife in. Then cross your fingers.
I have traveled dozens of times with knives in checkes bags, so far no problem.
I have always kept my knife clipped to my pocket like normal all over Las Vegas and was never approached by police or casino security. Behave yourself and you will be treated like all the other "guests".
