Hey Guys,
I'm going over to Dallas soon and I haven't flown domestically in a while. I heard a few years back that the TSA now allowed a few small knives without grips or something like that (Something like a classic SAK would pass). Is that still true? Or was that revoked?

Also, anyone know the laws in Dallas, TX? I'm going to be coming from LA, CA.

Thanks!

This is from last June.."The head of the Transportation Security Administration announced Wednesday he would drop his effort to allow small knives and some sporting equipment in carry-on luggage on planes. TSA Administrator John Pistole's reversal came after several months of fierce opposition from flight attendants, airlines and relatives of victims of terrorist attacks."

Sadly this wasn't even implemented before they banned knives again. Sad day for our community!

so put your knife in your luggage pretty much carry what you like in texas, switchblades are legal now, under 3.5 inches single edge. Anything else well probably everyone else has a folder in there pocket or purse.

Dallas County has a 4 inch limit for county buildings and some park facilities.

The City of Dallas bans the possession of knives of any kind in their libraries. (I guess people were cutting things out of magazines and books.)

Otherwise the only requirements are 5.5 inches or less, single edged. There is no open carry or concealed carry quandry. Either the knife is legal or illegal FOR CARRYING IN PUBLIC.

There is however, no preemption law, so cities and counties can pass more restrictive length/type laws, e.g., San Antonio with its ban on LOCKING, FOLDING knives. Fixed blades up to 5.5 inches are fine, any slippy under 5.5 inches is fine, just locking blades are banned from public carry.

Corpus Christi has a ban on the public carry of all fixed blades and has a 3 inch limit on all folders.

Here's hoping we can get a preemption law passed next session. Came close last year, but close counts only in horseshoes, grenades and thermo-nuclear detonation devices. :D
