I bought an Aitor Bucanero some 6 or 7 years ago. It is a Spanish made knife, I have not seen it since on the market, so I don't know if this model is still available. I went wilderness camping a couple of years ago and used it...no...abused it extensively for 3 days in the mountains and bush. It has an 8" blade with a hollow handle with compass and a survival kit in a plastic vial. I was most dubious about the hollow handle.......no problem at all. It is totally black with a military green kydex sheath with paracord etc etc. The knife is about 13 to 14 inches long in all. The mountain we went up was virgin territory and even discovered a cave which was totally unknown to the owner of the property concerned. I literally hacked my way up the mountain, and the only slight damage caused was when the tip of the blade actually glanced off a rock in one of my wild swings!!! There was a minor chip...hardly noticeable...WOW~!!!! The blade did become somewhat dull at the end of a very hard day for both the knife and I. It does not sharpen easily, but when I eventually did get the edge back, it retains it for a very long time. What a knife!!!! This knife is far too large for everyday carry, but it is part of my survival kit when I go outdoors for all the larger jobs.

Does anybody else have this knife? And if so, what are your experiences? I would also like to know what steel is used, and what is the best way to get an edge on this knife. An Arkansas stone with Smith's honing oil is not good enough and takes too long.

I have never heard of the Aitor Bucanero, but it sounds like the Jungle King I model sold in the US and Europe.

Thanks for your reply. Nope that's not the one....The Jungle King is a different model. The Bucanero is somewhat larger, and has a recurved edge. The blade is more a drop point than a clip point. It looks like the handle is the same. The sheath is kydex with paracord wrapped around it, with quick release system.

Hi
ThorTso, do you have some picture? I've been looking everywhere, but I couldn't find this knife.
Thanks

Hi Vevodap,

I don't have a picture unfortunately, and I also have been unable to find one on the web. I bought this knife around 6 or 7 years ago. I will try get it photographed and as soon as I do, I will post the picture.

Are you sure you've got the name right?
I was curious, since I'd never heard of that one, and did a search.
This is the Aitor Bucanero:p

Discovered Aitor makes alot of stuff I didn't know about on that search. I didn't realize they outfitted several countries' militaries.

N2S,
I like that Sheath with your Jungle King 1. I have the same knife, but with the plastic sheath with all of the accessories built in. The little skinner that is in the sheath is nice also. I like your sheath more though.

LOL...I promise you that my Aitor Bucanero is real and is likr the Jungle King, only with a drop point blade, false semi edge on top, recurved blade and saw on top as in the Jungle King. I will take a picture and post it asap. It is totally black, with a military green kydex sheath etc. A monster of a knife and it really does the job.

Yes, Aitor make cutlery, and they do kit out certain countries' military including USA and of course certain NATO countries. My web searches have also yielded no results for this model....*SIGH*

I wasn't doubting your description of the knife, just thought it was funny to find that little knife/fork/spoon combo with the same name.
Unless you have webspace for your pic, you may not be able to post it here without a paid membership.
If you find you can't post it, you can email it to me, and I'd be happy to post it for you.
btw, welcome to the forums!

I don't think the leather sheath version was ever imported into the U.S. This example was probably originally sold in Europe.

Hi Thor...

About the sheath on your knife...

Are you sure the sheath is Kydex ??

6-7 year ago,, Kydex was pretty much unheard of in the knife industry...If anything the use of Kydex was just starting,so it's possible it is,,but I have my doubts...

It's more likely Injected ABS or something like that...

A picture would be worth a 1000 words..

Gee... I am not sure if the sheath is kydex, but it is not plastic nor is it leather. It is obviously some form of injected material...whatever it is, it is lightweight and very robust. As soon as I have a pic, I will send it to someone for posting here.
