Has anyone used this thing? It you haven't seen it, it's a knife designed so you can use the butt cap to hammer nails, stakes, etc. It just looks dangerous to me because the hammering motion requires that you use the knife point up, moving it up and down in the direction of your face; great way to put an eye out or disect your face. Also it looks like you could miss the nail, or have the striking surface slip off the nail head, and do some painful damage to your hand. I suppose you could hammer with it in the sheath which would give some protection but every picture in the Sep 2002 Tactical Knives shows it being used unsheathed.
Just curious if anyone knows how this works in the real world.

My advice:
1. Lock your index finger over the guard when
hammering, like the article in Tactical Knives
shows. This way your hand will resist slipping
during impacts. Sort of like gripping a sub-hilt.
2. Much like a kukri, machete, or hatchet, do not swing
in an arc that would allow you to hit yourself in any
way should you miss.
3. Use a hammer or mallet whenever possible.
The Aitor Hammerhead works and feels good, but I haven't used it for a great deal of hammering due to #3. The balance for hammering is good and the dimpling on the hammerhead is a step up from most hammer poll knives. It really helps prevent slipping off nail heads. A great peice for cutting and occasional use as a field hammer IMHO.
