I just ran across this knife and would like to find out what I can regarding it's collecability/worth. It has Imperial USA/Prov. R.I. on the blade as well as Ingersoll Rand/Professional Tools. It's has a 16553 as what I believe to be a model number as well as raised lettering for A.J. Foyt Jr. 1972 Daytona 500 Winner etc. on one side. The other side has A.J's face and car with Daytona in the background. What do you think? Thanks, Tim

Hi Tim.
Welcome to the forum!
Could you tell us how many blades the knife has and possibly post a picture or give us a link to a site that has a picture? Here is a link that will show you how to post a picture: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=219367
Codger or someone will be along shortly and can answer your question better than I can. I suspect your knife was made prior to 1973, which was (as I recall) the date that Schrade & Imperial combined & Imperial production was moved to Ellenville, NY. Codger 64 or Lt632ret will know for sure.
This site probably has more info on Schrade/Imperial than any where else. We have a lot of folks here who know a great deal about
Check around the forum and you too may get the Schrade collecting disease! :D

Again, welcome and I hope you enjoy the forum.

Dale, it's a three blade knife, on the main blade it's got Ingersoll Rand on one side and Liminted Edition on the other. I tried using the link you provide and it would not work. If you want I can email you pictures directly, my email is ttullio(AT)direcway.com, of course remove the at the put in @. Thanks again, Tim

Hiya Tim. Welcome to our forum. Ingersoll-Rand had a relationship with Imperial that resulted in a few different knifes. The ones I am most familar with is the Imperial Frontier models made in the usa, with the I-R logo, but they do not state Prov. RI on them. So I am thinking perhaps one of the open stock stockman knives, or one of the later Imperial Frontiers made in the USA.

Collector's value is not real high on those items. Nice knives, great to own, but not pricey. AJ was my own favorite driver when I was a kid.

A pic will help us.

Phil

If you could, please give me the link for picture posting again. I still can't get the above one to work. Thanks, Tim

Tim,
Without being a paying member of the forums you must use another web site to store your picts and then put a link to that site here. Not as hard to do as it is to explain. If you want email them to me at lrvickery@comcast.net Ill post em for ya. I for one want to see this AJ knife.

really cool knife!! i havent ever seen one like it. wonder if they made a series of these? maybe a petty and pearson? some nascar fans may really take a liking to it! thanks for sharing!!

Looks like a nice collectable. I have a little bit of a Schrade/Nascar collection going on here myself.

For some reason these things usually sell for less than the knife alone. I think I only paid $30 for the Harry Gant/Mac Tools LB5, and about the same for the three blade stockman.

I have the same knife. What is it worth, or collect-ability of it?
Ed

I often find a collector will pay twice the $$$$ worth of a knife, when he dose not have one like the one for sale.
Just when you think you know the price / worth of a knife, it sells for half that amount.

As for collectable; some collectors (like myself) some times collect any thing for the fun of it all.
Five years ago, a seller sold 15 small knives to me for $10.
Later I found they were very hard to find, and were selling for $10 each.

So, when someone told me they could not find them to fill a gap in their collection; I just sent them one - NO CHARGE.

i can find them and need them to fill in the gap.

(sorry couldn;t resist,............................... the debil made me do it!)
