Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of each?? Is there a considerable weight difference? I would like to use this for outdoor hiking use, so I'll be carrying it a lot...

Also, I've never seen a pic of the aluminum handle?? Does anyone have one?? Perhaps side-by-side to with the micarta?

I don't have one in Micarta but the aluminum shape is the same. The finish is nice and smooth with no chatter marks and very nice black anodizing.

The aluminum feels great in my hands but I'm sure the grip would be better with Micarta but I'm not sure that would be better in a sword.

If you go for aluminum, it is going to cost you $. The Micarta AK's are still available from the company store for list price. The aluminum is rare and comands a premium.

Canvas weight - 1 lb 14 oz
Aluminum weight - 2 lb 5 oz

Aluminum...CON: cold when you first hold it, also I don't have one........Canvas: PRO I have one.

From any PRACTICAL and FUNCTIONAL standpoint, is there any benefit of the aluminum over the canvas ??

Not to me. The canvas has a lighter, quicker feel to it. I'll see if I can dig up the old threads on this discussion :)

The aluminum handles add a little more weight to an already heavy AK.

I do like the look of the aluminum handles though.

I picked up an aluminum handled AK at a show with the intent to buy it.

Instead, I ordered a micarta handled AK a few weeks later from Skunk.

Is there a considerable weight difference between the G-10 and Micarta ?? Or are they basically the same?

Probably close to the same weight. The only G-10 offered was an ugly, milky light green with a black stripe down the middle. :barf: Even Jerry thought is was ugly.

I recall hearing (or reading) that the aluminum handles get hot if you leave them laying out in the sun. I've never handled an Al handled AK, but I have a micarta one and it is a psycho-slasher. Given that they are available at list from the Store, that would be my route.

I was of the understanding that the aluminum handles make the sword more neutrally balanced.

The aluminum handle AK feels like it would take a lot less force to swing it, because the aluminum handles are a little heavier than the micarta. I liked my Aluminum AK that WASH now has. I also liked the micarta. It should boil down to a coin toss:thumbup:
