AK-47 to Ruck

I was browsing the exchange and I see Matchgrades trade on an AK for a Ruck. Im sitting here looking at his AK and thinking how hard really would it be to make an AK more Ruckish. A Ruck isnt that much shorter then an AK. A couple inches in the blade and a couple inches in the handles. I would think taking off 2-3 inches in the handle would be easy(for someone who had the tools). Take off the grips and just cut a couple inches of steel off and refit the grip and sand them down. There seems to be 5 rivets on an AK and 4 on a Ruck. I dont think I would cut any length off of the sharp end. The handles on a Ruck are thinner then the handles on an AK so if you like the thicker grips on the AK this might be the way to go. Any thoughts?

haha! I was just thinking about modding my AK to a Ruck! But I would probably need to borrow your ruck as a template ;)

Well I'll see if I still need a ruck after I am done with that FBM Machete.
 
Make sure I check out that AK before you mod it, have to see what Im missing out on first. Since AKs are gone from the store once again.

That's funny--I was just thinking about welding a piece of Cold Steel sweetness to the end of my Ruck to make it a custom one-of-a-kind AK!!! :rolleyes: (j/k) Oh, and no offense meant to any Cold Steel fan who might read this!!:)
 
What would you cut it with? I wonder if you could just leave the scales on and do it just the same?

The butt seems like the easy part (or the "it would be hard to really screw it up" part) -- reprofiling the blade would be the scary part to me...

Send it to the 'ducci for a "snubnose" AK look...

You can cut the tip with a angle grinder and cutoff wheel. The cutoff wheel gets hot really fast so be careful. Just go really really slow and dip it in water after every pass. I would just lay my AK down on a piece of plywood and ask someone to hold a water hose over it as I cut away.
 
I HIGHLY recommend that you cut the tip end off first, and then see how it feels, before you take ANY steel and micarta off the butt end. I and a few others think that the ruck is very tip heavy......
That's why I traded mine!
 
After handling both at Blade (thanks Dave), I decided that I wanted the Ruck more than the AK. What I liked about the Ruck was how blade heavy it was/is. The AK is much more neutral and felt more like a fighter/sword, as it should. The Ruck is a short machete, imho. I'd love to see someone "Ruck Up" an AK. Heck, I'd probably be willing to buy one, depending on the price.

I heard that after Cobalt gave Jerry all that bad Scotch at Blade 07, Jerry went back to the shop to make knives for the Bloodbath Ganza but couldn't help but grind blades like that. So his Dr. said to take a week off and drink only JW Blue :thumbup: (I bet you all didn't know Skunk was an MD too :eek: )

This is why the Bloodbath Ganza has taken so long to come around.

It is COBALT's fault!!!!! But let's blame Porkerson:thumbup:
 
I didn't say the Ruck was "too" blade heavy, just more blade heavy than the AK. To me the Ruck spoke to me, it said, "chop, chop":D . I think the last blade that spoke to me like that was the Mr. Mofo, which said "fight, fight":D
