AK-47 vs Gladius

I’d like to see them in action. Cutting a tree down or something similar. I need a reason to buy one and hang it in the wall

Not much of a chopper, lol...but I doubt the AK47 would be much better.
Style-wise, I don't really care for the gladius. The AK47 was what brought Busse onto my radar...I finally got one (BG version), and found that I like the Waki better; so I no longer have an AK47.

AK for me. The Gladius is nice, but at almost 3 1/2 pounds, it's something like twice as heavy as the Roman version, and the double-edgedness limits its utility for the machete-type tasks that an AK can sort of handle. I'm sure the Gladius is a better chopper (although I've never tried it with mine), but I'm just as sure that the AK would be better for batoning. For me, it comes down to the fact that the AK has some utility as a tool, while I don't see where a Gladius would be useful as anything but a weapon.

Gladius
Cuz I'm normally surrounded by dumb-asses errrr I mean zombies
And I could just swing away.....lol
.....all jokes aside...both are one handed weapons if needed....so?....look out zombies

Can’t say, as I only have a Rucki. Been pondering this very question.

AK ...............................because

That video was from before I convexed the edges on the Gladius to a much better performing geometry. It chops wood much better now and blazes through soft targets about the same as the Butaniku. The biggest shortcoming of the Gladius for me is too short of a grip to two-hand it.

The AK, Ruck, Waki & Rucki all do very poorly at chopping hard wood, but do baton through it decently. They work well on softer vegetation for brush clearing and soft targets.

A long Gladius would be awesome if it was lightened up a bit for balance. The Butaniku, both long and short are really nice too!

Bottom line, they are all fun!

AK = more practical and better as a weapon too.

Gladius is cool but at 3 1/2 pounds with super thick dagger grind I bet even a real Roman warrior himself would shake their head holding one...

Just wanted to add that, despite my earlier comments, I understand why those that have a Busse Gladius appreciate it. I have a MBB M-18, which is rather gladius-like; but it's overly thick and overly heavy - and those are things that I like about it.

Or not. WARNING: Viewer discretion advised. ;)

Butaniku Short is where it's at. A sword is a sword and a knife is a knife. Why would anyone want to chop with a sword (although I still don't quite understand why people want to chop with knives either)? Or baton with one? If there is ever a survival situation where you find yourself having to choose one blade, best to grab a knife that can be used more practically in more camp/survival tasks (ASH2 gets my vote every time). If you have to choose between a knife and a sword to fight someone (or something) you grab what is easiest to use and puts the most distance between you and whatever it is that needs the meet the business end of your Busse. And the Butaniku Short is perfect for that. The AK47 seems too short to me, although it is perfect for my wife. Gladius seems like a good choice with the double edge, but one handed and heavier might fatigue someone more quickly than a two handed sword. Plus you have to get closer. Butaniku long is too loooooooong for me.

If I had to choose between an AK and Gladius, I'd go AK. It's longer, lighter, and faster.

Daaang!!! Nice vid, Tim! I especially enjoy the pre/post commentary.

Thanks, it's from a couple years ago and is unlisted for obvious reasons. I still have to find the one where I chopped up my favorite yak with a long Butaniku after she hung herself in the fence. She sat too long so we couldn't save the meat for steaks but at least a $3000 animal went to dog food rather than worm food.
I have pics of it with the coating scars to prove it. ;)

The wear makes it look even better than new!! Wish I was around when the longer swords were offered. As a tall guy, the shorter swords don’t quite fit me. Hoping to see something at least 36” in the (near-ish) future.

I have always wondered what the ideal dimensions are for a long but well balanced katana...
I’d imagine it would be different for everyone. You should talk to your local katana tailor, and have him take some measurements.
