so my sister and i were innocently walking down the street when, out of nowhere, this VERY HARDWOOD OAK CHAIR started to attack us. well, luckily i had my trusty new american kensei. i took the chair out first and then let my sister finish him off...

in all i wacked at the oak about 30 times (hard). the finish shows some wear and there is a 1 millimeter dent and 2 - 1/2 mm dents. they are almost invisible. this is a nice blade. i would trust my life w/ it. and now it is just messed up enough for me not to worry about messing it up. it is going to be a user.

I would say something about sportin wood, but not with you holding that sword. Very Kewl.

Great pics, thanks for sharing them.

It's funny how those household furnishings attack, I had a bathroom vanity attack me once and I had to fend it off with my FSH ;)

:D:D

Awesome pics!

What must the neighbors think?

They mostly attack me at night......they like to go after my toes...sometimes a shin.........when I'm heading for the bathroom in the dark.

Did you actually sustain edge damage, or just finish marring? Was the edge damage a result of hitting some metal fittings on the chair, or did it occur during the chops into the wood?

there was a little damage. one 1mm dent and two 1/2mm dents. very, very small. you can kinda see them in some of the pics. i'm not sure when i got them. i have a feeling they came from just hitting the wood b/c i didn't hit any of the outside metal. but, they was some metal in the chair, but i didn't hit those that hard. i was taking major wacks at the very hard oak.

oh, and those are my sister's bunny pajamas. (she's 12)

I do not think any edge damage should have happen when hitting wood, am i wrong
Any how i can't wait to get mine in :D

Poor chair didn't have a chance.

When did you decide to carpet your back yard?

No, a blade should not sustain edge damage from wood contact since the steel is much higher RC than the wood. However, when you are talking about full strength hits with a long sword-like blade, you could be getting some pretty rough lateral stresses upon impact as the blade vibrates I would think...though that shouldnt damage the blade, either. My guess is that the chair legs had been treated in some way with a very tough varnish or you hit some upholstering tacks or something else in the process. Properly Ht'd blades should be able to otherwise chop those legs all off and still chave with zero edge damage, so im assuming you hit something other than wood or beefed-up wood.

What's the steel in these? Are they differentially HT'd or are they full quench? If full, what RC are they tempered to? Thats an awful long blade for 3/16 to still be flexible, so maybe they sacrifice some RC for toughness and flex and that could explain a bit more edge damage....

That was my chair!!!! You leave for a few days and... Geeeesss. In order to ease my pain, how about a passaround of that chair killer? :D
