Multiple posts by Cold Steel have indicated that the new 2015 ak47s will feature the new less aggressive g10. All the pictures I've seen havent shown this but i figured they just hasn't been updated yet. Well knifecenter got them in stock recently and it seems that they don't in fact come with the new g10 like i thought. Cold steel, is it possible some shipped with the older style g10 and they just haven't transitioned to the newer style yet? Or are they staying this way?

I hate to hear that. The overly aggressive g-10 was the reason I passed on the new recon 1. I do understand that many like the thick, aggressive g-10. You could always sand it smoother.

I'm interested to read what happens here, as I've been waiting on these. In for one either way

I am one of fans of the extra-grippy, peel-ply G10.

I think a lot of other knife companies started out using too smooth G10 handle scales.

It looks like even a lot of these other companies are going to more grippy G10 handles scales now too.

However, I can understand that not everyone will like it, because of having to replace expensive clothing and uniforms is cost prohibitive.

That's an old picture. GP Knives has pictures of the new Mini AK-47 and it has the smoother G-10 and looks a lot thinner. Personally, I like the old, thick, grippy G-10 just fine.

I actually prefer the old g10 because of the thickness, but even a reviewer on knife center mentions it has the old g10. I actually wouldn't mind it keeping the old style.

If we're talking about the same review, he says he has the old version even though he posted the review under the 2015 version. On the American Lawman, the thinner G-10 makes it feel like a very different knife. I like both and will probably carry the 2015 Lawman more often, but I miss the way the old one filled the hand.

I only had the new AK last year with XHP, it also had the same thick aggressive scales.
I actually like them.

Hi, I believe the Mini-AK47 has thinner and smoother G10. The larger model will feature the original heavy duty G10

I did see a prototype with the thinner scales, but I don't believe we went to full production on that.
I think the feeling was that the larger model would see similar use to the Recon series - our feedback from Military and LEO users was that they prefer the rougher texture for knives used in the field - so the more aggressive G10 stayed.

Personally, I too prefer the smoother G10, and I actually sand mine down to get that texture - but I'm a city boy. My knives see a different kind of use
I hope that helps

Thanks for the clarification. I prefer the older rough g10 on the larger knives. They fill the hand much better imho. The new lawman just felt weird to me when I handled it, so the ak47 keeping the old style is a plus as far as I'm concerned. It was just hard to find a definitive answer as to whether or not it was changed for the new runs. Thanks again for the response [emoji3]
