My newest aquisition, a 15" AK Bowie arrived this morning at my work location. You should have seen the look on my co-workers faces when I pulled this beauty out of the famous triangle box! Most of them have never seen anything larger than a standard letter opener! Anyway I will post pics tonight sometime as I dare not take it out at work again (only did it the first time to ensure it had arrived safely (as it always does coming from HI). Thanks again Auntie! A great blade and one I look forward to using real soon....

The AK Bowie is one of my all time faves:) It took the Tirtha Bowie to dethrone it as my go-to favorite HI product.

Congrat Shadowchaser! I love my AK Bowie too and in my opinion, the AK Bowie along with the timeless UBE are 2 unique HI designs that are "must-haves" for any HI-lover. The first time I looked under the "special items" section of the HI Online Store, I was blown away by the looks of the AK Bowie and the UBE. I thought, "man, are these 2 blades cool looking or what!" From the experience of forumites here, they are also very practical users and perform great out in the field or in the kitchen. Looking forward to seeing some pics...

AK Bowie is a sweet, sweet knife. I love mine -- it packs nicely, it chops like crazy and it's built to last a lifetime. As I've bought and sold my revolving collection of HI items, the AK Bowie is one that I never consider selling.

Picture time!

Next to my Dan Koster WSK, a bit bigger and more robust....

More pics to come later on....

Nice, let us know how it performs, I've always been curious.

Is it heavy? Any hot spots in your grip?

Thanks :)

The AK Bowie is the knife Benicio del Toro WISHES he had in The Hunted.

For real? Why would the Tracker model came in?

I often puzzled over that choice as i thought R.Kayanan had better idea.

Well, it's something of a joke based on this pic:

The knife del Toro uses is actually a WSK, not a Tracker. I DON'T think it was a good choice, it was chosen because it looks cool. I think the AK Bowie is a more practical overall design that has more cool factor, but is actually useful in the woods, and is no doubt not something you want to get hit/ stabbed with.

I actually find my WSK to be quite useful in the timber with me. It has been my preferred knife for taking hunting with me. Quite versatile but I've still got to take my Bowie out now to give a good comparison.

I recently had the wonderfull opportunity to chop with an AK Bowie, at the WNY knife gathering. It was simply AWESOME !!! I was chopping 2" limbs of cherry wood with 1 chop. I was impressed for sure. Now i will have to add that to my "gotta get one of those" list. I sure cant remember his name, but a BIG shout out & 2 thumbs up for the "HI Kuhkri Guy" at the WNY Knife Gathering, for letting me use that Bowie. It was NOT even razor sharp---imagine if it was ? Scary. One big, honkin, great looking, useable tool, that is oh-sooo-shiney. It aint just for looks either. It works GREAT !!!

Good to see you made it here, TwinStick!
Feel free to poke around in here. There is alot of info in the stickies at the top of the forum. If you have any questions, feel free to ask em', we all started out asking. H.I. Not only makes Khukuri and the odd Bowie or two or three, but we also have quite a few hunting/bushcraft knives. I bet theres a flavor for just about everyone.

Thanks Karda. I will own one some day. I love the weight, spine thickness, full width, full tang, extended tang, lanyard hole. Mine will be a hard use Bowie for sure. I DO NOT spare ANY mercy on my blades. If you ever come across an exceptional AH Bowie, (sheath don't matter to me, as this blade is definately worthy of a custom kydex sheath), take lots of pics & let me know wayyy in advance & i may take it off your hands at the WNY Knife Gathering 2012. Thanks.

Maybe it is just me, but your AK Bowie seemed to have the blade more in line (or straighter) with the handle, than the one in this thread ??? Which is better ? Which performs better ? Just askin cause i don't know. My amature guess is that, if the spine is in-line with the handle, it would perform better ???

I have seen some that seemed to have a bit of a curve, but i dont think it would be enough to have much of a noticeable effect on chopability. The handle and spine look in line on the one in this thread. I think the recurve on the blade tends to throw ones eye outta whack a little.

The spine is in fact in line with the handle, there is no offset and I agree with Karda that it is an illusion due to the curve of the blade itself. I have noticed no problem in choppability other than the handle is a bit narrow which makes the knife tend to shift in the hand a bit. Am considering wrapping the handle with 550 cord in order to give it a bit more of a fit in my large hands. Will let you know how that turns out. Otherwise I might have to figure out how to make some custom scales for this knife and it looks so nice that I don't wish to take that route.
The handle on my Koster WSK is a bit larger and fits nicer into my hand. Right off hand I can't remember what the material is called that those scales are made of (it is compressed cloth and epoxy that is shaped for the handle). Can anyone refresh my memory?

Karda, could we see a picture of the AK Bowie of yours that TwinStick is referring to? I would like to do a comparison of them.

Sure.....Here it is. Realised i forgot to clean it up too, this is what it looks like fresh from the field where TwinStick and John G. gave her some testing. She is bathed and oiled now.
