Another HI blade joined my collection today. I received my Ang Khola Bowie, and I am stunned! What a beautiful blade! The first thing I noticed was that the spine on the blade was not like the versions of the past as this one is approx 1/4" thick. I believe the old ones were 1/2, maybe even thicker? However, what this blade has lost in chopping power it has gained in grace. This blade feels extremely lively in the hand and just seems right. The first thing I did (don't shriek
) was get a good patina on the blade (white vinegar), then I used it to prepare my dinner. For all the chopping of veggies and meat ( big old pot of chili) it performed flawlessly. If asked, "would you purchase this blade again?" I would have to say "Hell ya!"
I will be testing the Ang Khola Bowie at camp this weekend, it's pretty damned cold here, as the temperature has been -40 celius the last few days. We'll see how she holds up to the cold, but I suspect no troubles.
I cannot wait to receive my next purchase that is being made for me, a rare monster of a blade.
I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks Yangdu!
