Hi guys,
There's an AK Bowie for sale on Knifeforums if anyone is looking for one. And it's by Bura. Needs a little work though.

Bura on KF

Hmmmmm looking at the sheath I think that use to be mine. I traded it. Hope it finds a nice home.

wonder if Johnny (Semp) knows about this one....

Yeah but the edge sounds too soft from the description. Could be that you could sharpen back past it and be ok, but I wouldn't want to pay that much for it with the possibility that you couldn't. Especially since the return policy only is valid for knives you buy directly.

The AK bowie I got at Khon is awesome. I took it out in the woods and used it on some real hard wood and no wavering. I think it chops as good as my top eschelon khuks. I was through some 6" wood no problem.

One thing I have against a lot of bowies and camp knives, or not really against them but I think it's kind of a design flaw, is that they may be made out of quarter inch steel, but that with the bevels and shaping of the blade it ends up that most of the full thickness steel is in the handle, and the handle is often oversize.

The great thing about the HI AK is that the tang is forged thinner than the blade throwing the weight farther forward so the point of contact is actually where it should be. Not back closer to the handle.

Yes. I agree, HD. Once you have handled an AK Bowie, regular bowies feel like "kid brothers"....

Thanks for the heads up guys.
The blade may be soft as hollowdweller says but I'll take a chance on Bura any day. Email sent and waiting on a response.

:-) That should help make up for your bad luck at the Khon, HEY! Wait a minute! You won the M43!!!!!!!!!!

I guess we need to get THE DUCK in here to beat you back down a bit, eh?

Congrats Johnny! Pleased for ya!

Congrats, Semp!

If you have any questions about realigning the edge, let me know.

Questions?.....didn't we meet at the Khon?....and didn't ya see first hand my excellent knife skills??:barf: .....I will have

BUNCHES OF QUESTIONS! :D

Thanks for the offer and expect many emails! :D

Speaking of knife skills, be careful you don't cut yerself! ;-)

you guys will laugh at this one....

I was unpacking stuff out of my boxes...in goes the hand...OUCH!

I was reaching for some leather and stuck my finger right into the edge of that long, unfinished, file knife I was showing people at the MWKK. It was still bleeding yesterday....fortunately, it finally closed up overnight...:(

yikes!

And that one had come fresh off a 180 grit belt just for test purposes....gotta love that convex edge....sure bit me good this time!

OUCH! Your'e lucky that's all that happened...you could have jerked your hand back out and left a finger behind!

I wouldn't be worried about that edge...whack it back in line, sharpen it up and beat the hell out of it until it bends again. Breakage...that'd worry me...

How does the saying go? ....You play with fire and you're gonna get burnt. You play with knives and you're gonna get cut. :p

Be sure the tetanus shot is up to date.

I know I'm there...was sharpening an old Rapala filet knife yesterday...pulled it off the leather belt (Thanks Dan), carefully wiped it with a shop rag (Thanks Warren!) and put the tip to my finger to look at the edge...was still admiring the fine polish when I saw a drop of blood running down the edge. I swear there wasn't *any* pressure on it...but as I rotated that dang *thin* blade, it just caught and circled a little chunk out.

Too pleased with myself to complain about the cut! :-)

sometimes a self-inflicted wound is a good one....:D
