AK Bowie: Now I know what all the hype is about

I just got my new AK Bowie. Up to now I've resisted this knife because I found it aesthetically unappealing, but various testimonials combined with a half-price deal obliged me to give it a try when the last one sat on the block for a day or two.

It would seem logical that another new HI knife might not make me say "wow!" after the first dozen or two, but as always, the magic is still there.

This bowie fits my hand like a glove. Feels fast and light, but cuts with authority. It reminds me of the Pen-knife in its combined simplicity and functional form. I'll hone up the edge to scary-sharp and give a field report this winter, hopefully after my boys and I put an elk and a few whitetails in the freezer.

To those of you who were tempted but sitting on the fence when this one was for sale, I recommend you set a few dollars aside and keep an eye out for the next one, and thanks for letting me grab this one. :)

I feel the way you did, don't like its profile. Maybe I will pick one up someday. Every comment I see about it is good. Way to be an enabler raghorn.

congratulations- does yours have fullers?

Good question. I would love to have one if it had the fullers like they used to have. Glad that you liked it.

Thanks, Bob. ;)

Munk - Yep, it's got the single AK-style fuller just forward of the sword of Shiva.

Edited to add: I'll post some pics later on.

Come next payday when the money is available i plan on sending an AK bowie to a friend of mine.
I just might open up a box of 2 Bowies hearing how great they are.

If anyone is interested there was a very special tarwar given to a man in the canadian private forces, his picture is up on the HI webstie in full militairy garb. He did a write up on the forums about the Tarwar.

The man who gave him that Tarwar was Sean Kennedy one of my personal heroe's and I traveled across Canada to meet him. We spent some good time together. That is the man who is getting the AK bowie gift.
I just feel he deserves it, Sean also owns an 18" AK made by shankar.

I got one. They are like an axe with a large cutting surface or a super heavy meat cleaver. I think the handle is ugly but very comfortable.

First pic shows the fuller pretty well. The second pic shows the beautiful white highlights in the left handle slab.

MAN! I really hate to say I told you so;) Raghorn, if you find that the angled slabs are a bit uncomfortable (as i did), try sanding then down just ever so slightly. I got the idea from a pic I found in an old thread where Dan Koster had done the same to one. Very warm to the hand. If you want to test out its chopping ability, try it on a coconut. I did this last night. no rolling, no dings, not even a hint of dulling. Just coconut water all over the wall (and ceiling) of my apartment:) Excellent snag, raghorn:)

Yes.....my jealousy button reminded me.....

:D

To those who can't tell the difference, other than the rounded handle....the middle fuller is much deeper in the Sanu.

Nice snag Raghorn! I'm glad you got it. Gonna try one myself one of these days.
