Dear all,
few weeks ago I read here a thread about a kukri and sharpening problems.
Also I was contacted in Britishblades about the same kukri. In the end Geoffrey want it to sell it, so I bought it. It arrived today and am I a happy camper. :)

I have tried it a bit and cant see any problems with it.
It is sharp, the belly of the blade shaves hair but rest of the blade just needs bit "touch up".

This is my first kukri, so I popped my cherry and in a rather nice way.

Yours,
Juha

Welcome to Khukuri-ville. Very nice follow-up post, thank you. Smart first khukuri to own. I hope it's the start of many more! It probably is, whether you intend that or not ;)

Welcome to the cantina, Juha:)
I'm very glad you like your khukuri. It probably won't be you last;)

welcome my new khukuri friend--you're off to a great start with the knife you picked up--start saving up your money because you can't stop with just one--lol  :)

Hello Juha. I'm glad to hear that everything was resolved peacefully. It seemed like that thread had the potential to be very contentious. Welcome to the Cantina and a new obsession. :D

Welcome to the Cantina...pull up a stool.

Howdy, Juha.

Take it out and thrash it. Get to know just what it's capable of - don't take our word for it. Be careful, though - you will want more after you do. This is the pitfall of the few instances in life where quality can be had for less than it's worth.

If you want pointers on sharpening, you certainly came to the right place. I wish I'd discovered this forum years ago. Lots of experience and knowledge here.

I couldn't keep my fingers out of that kukri so I spend ~ 30 min. with Lappstone/dianova diamond sharpner and then few more minutes with strop.
It was relativly easy to sharpen even when the blade was convex. We Finns rather prefer flat grind... :p
It took a very very nice edge and cuts away like there is no tomorrow.

When I get bit more time I shall use it for little clearing, few plum trees and such need bit trimming.
The "tools" that came with the kukri are not as good as I would hoped for but I wont be using them any way so, no worries. :D

The handle is bit too small for me but that is just a question of time when my palms get use to it. I still have to say that I'm really happy with it and it might be that I shall get a bigger one...one day...

Thank you all for warm welcome, I dont post often. I rather read your comments.

Juha

Sometimes a short handle can be used if you put your thumb on the angled part of the metal bolster. It works on my for the 12" khukuries. Others have sanded or filed down the end of the handle.

I'm glad someone got the knife to work.

Welcome, Juha. You've come to a wonderful home here. Great bunch of guys that will keep you informed and sometimes very entertained. :D

Welcome Juha,

I'm very glad that khukuri found someone to love. :)

Any questions at all are happily received on this forum, and if I can help in any way, please let me know.

Be well and safe.

Juha,

If you are Finnish could you translate this for me, please??

Kerran vain haaveeni nahda sain
En pienuutta alla tahtien tuntenut
Kerran sain kehtooni kalterit
Vankina sielta kirjetta kirjoitan

Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

Sinussa maailman kauneus
Josta kuolema teki minusta taiteilijan

Luojani, luoksesi anna minun tulla siksi miksi lapseni minua luulee

Oman taivaan tanne loin
Anna minun paasta pois

Thank you so very much.

Ah, a Nightwish fan arent you? Well me too...
I shall give it a try...

"only ones I got to see my dream,
did not fell small under the stars.
I got jailbars to my cradle,
as a prison I'm writing a letter from there.

Lord, let me come to you, to be what my child thinks I am.

In you, beauty of the world,
where death made me an artist.

Lord, let me come to you, to be what my child thinks I am.

Here I created a heaven of my own,
let me pass away."

Like most Nightwish lyrics it's quite morbid.
I cant grasp the real translation since English is my seconde language, sorry.
It is quite difficult to understand this songs lyrics in Finnish too, it's bit like poem, everyone understands it bit differend. My wife likes this song too, even when she is not a fan of other songs of Nightwish. She calls this type of music "Morkomusaksi" = "Boogieman music"
Hope this helps,
Juha

Thank you so much. That is very interesting. I think what is fascinating about their music is more the instrumentation than the lyrics. I use the lyrics part to teach hope to my daughter. Amazing how that works. But it does get her thinking about what she's listening to. I like your wife's description of the music. I couldn't quite think up the right word for it. :D

Thanks again. :D
