AK vs. Gravity--- An Inadvertent Test

So, I've been finishing the wood handle on my 18" AK over the past week, and on Sunday, I decided to set it out on my deck to get some extra drying power from the sun. Well, I set knife up on the railing, turned around to say something to my wife, and then I heard the sound of a large metallic object hitting the gravel driveway about six feet down--oops. The AK suffered only minimal damage-- a few dings near the tip that came out in a few minutes with some sandpaper on a mouse pad, a few dings in the spine near the tip, and a dent in the handle. I also lost a tiny piece of one of the rings in the handle, but managed to fill it in with epoxy. There was also the start of a split in the top of the dent, but I filled it with superglue and epoxied the whole thing as well. Unfortunately, the dent in the wood left a bit of a shiny spot that hasn't gone away even with sanding. It's not that big a deal, but it was definitely a bummer to lose that pristine look. I'm hoping that subsequent coats of tru-oil will minimized the uneven shine.

So, I learned two things from this whole fiasco:
1) The AK is a very tough knife-- a six foot fall onto rocks and gravel only caused cosmetic damage.

2) Don't put khukuris on railings where clumsy people can knock them off

Somebody dropped one down a two hundred foot rocky cliff and it suffered buttcap damage and that was about it. Want to guess who? The clue is in the first sentence of this paragraph.

200 feet off a cliff? That's gotta be worse that getting stamped by an elephant.

Actually I think it was Cliff's brother that dropped the knife off the cliff, but my memory is fuzzy.
