AK47 and Swamp Rat Waki

I recently bought a Swamp Rat Waki. It preforms as advertised. Its a great cutter. My question is this. Is it worth for me to buy an AK47 also? From what I have been told "infi" has better stain resistance than SR-101.Plus the AK has a slightly longer blade length. However, since both blades have the same type of heat treatment. They are close to equal in toughness. Is the AK worth 2 1/2 times the cost of a Waki? Thanks for your advice.

The AK is through hardened, the Waki is differentially hardened. I have all three waki style swords from Busse and I prefer the AK, but mine has been modded by Ban and is convexed and satin finished. The Scrapiziwashi from Scrapyard is faster and better balanced than the Waki, but if you already have a Waki you are good to go. No real reason to get the others unless you want one. At least that was my rational. :)

I tend to think of Swamp Rat's SR101 as having 95% of the performance of INFI at 60% of the price.

My mint AK47 is for sale, and the user Waki and Ruck are staying.

Ted why do you prefer the Ak? Is it because of the "mods" that you had done on it? Or is the balance slightly better than the other swords. The SR waki for me feels very good on balance and weight. It's great for "draw cutting". Its not too light or too heavy. I can't say the same for the Busse gladius. Because of the weight it does not draw as fast as the waki. But I will never sell it. It has it's uses. If you had to do some door breaching or chopping through stucco or cinder block walls ,thats the weapon/tool to use.

I'm thinking a sledge hammer, might be my tool of choice...

The way I see is like this:
1.-Do you need another sword-machete?
2.-Do you WANT the other sword-machete (AK 47)?.
3.-Is money a consideration?
I have the Swamp Rat Rodent Waki. For now I wouldn't buy the AK (that is, if I could find a way to buy it from where I live). But, if I had the money to spare, well, maybe I would.

The AK is a little longer and mine has been convexed by Ban, so it is crazy sharp. The best balance of the Busse swords is the new Scrapiwashi from Scrapyard Knives. I also really like the custom sheath I have from Dwayne. Since I already own it and it has been modded to my specs I would definitely keep it. If I did not have either, I'd get the Scrapyard offering for $300 and call it a day. If I had to have a solid handle I'd go the Waki unless you could find the AK at original pricing. ;)

I own the Swamp Rat Rodent and since I do not know much about the steels used in these variants (Busse and sister companies)..... I'm wondering if there is any advantage at all that should make me consider purchasing the new Scrap Yard Scrapizashi as well. Does the Scrapizashi offer anything extra in durability and corrosion resistance over the Swamp Rat or is the wrapped handle vs. the micarta or G-10 handle, and integral guard on the Scrapizashi the only real differences to consider between the two models?

The scrapiwashi, looks lighter and consequently gives a better feeling of balance. However, perhaps its too light. I was looking at the scrapiwashi you-tube video. It seems that the scrapiwashi had difficulty in cutting through a 2x4 . The first section where the young lady is making cuts in a 2x4 .She is not making too much progress. They never show her totally cutting through the 2x4. This could be because she was not using proper technique. Looks like random swing cuts. However, I am sure with a little training she should be able to cut through the 2x4. The next sequence shows the young man attempting to cut through the 2x4. It appears that he is exerting a lot of power in his cuts with very little wood chipping. In this demonstration he still does not cut all the way through the 2x4. Check time sequence 1.28 in the video. It looks like he cut all the way through. However, if you look closely, he just knocks the 2x4 over instead of cutting completely through it on his last swing. I am not saying anything bad about the scrapiwashi. But perhaps if the sword had a little more weight. The cuts would have been deeper and he could of cut all the way through the 2x4. That being said. There is definite advantages in a lighter weight sword for anti-personal use. It would be faster and more "lively" in the hand if you were attacking "soft'' targets. But for me. I would feel more comfortable if I new that my sword could also completely take out "hard" targets (dismemberment of hands, arms and legs). After all .If you take away your opponents hands or arms and even if he is on PCP .There isn't too much that he can do to you after that. This is just my observation and opinion. I am no expert in "Iai".
