Does anyone plan on stripping their AK?

I was considering stripping mine. This is my first Busse that isn't Satin and I've never stripped one before.

If you strip the battle grade ones --- be sure to properly maintain to avoid potential rust. You should be fine -- but it's better to be aware.

Either way --- definitely post pics when you're done!

Sr101 hardly rusts in my experience. I've owned two swamprat LE s and they get a rather nice patina with use, but I wouldn't say rust has ever been a problem.

Be sure to polish the steel to as high a grit finish as possible to help avoid potential issues with discoloration.

This is one reason why you don't see much rusting. The polishing of the surface reduces the surface area. Notice the HI khukuri's and their high polish resists rusting very well.

I may strip mine and force a patina. I strip all my infi if I don't get satin. I have a 1311 that's stripped and has a forced patina, it holds up well with basic care but I'm not sure if it is sr101 or sr77

What do you do to force the patina? I've read about using different citrus type fruits

You can use vinegar, mustard, lemons, bananas (probably more than that really those are just the ones I know) I usually use vinegar and then put some Tiger stripe type designs on with mustard after. You can also use gun blue
Here is my 1311 with the vinegar and mustard

Man that turned out nice. I'm a little anxious about doing it, but I'm just not a big fan of coatings for the most part.

Me either. My AK will likely end up stripped with a forced patina as well

I stripped and reprofiled the Waki, but didn't bother to try a patina. It has help up well. Same with the nekkid 1311.

I've been thinking about stripping my user AK. Ordinarily, I'd just leave it as is, but the coating chipped off around the tip a few years ago.

Any suggestion guys on taking scratches off a satin finish? I hear metal polish paste and mr clean magic erase?
Suggestions?

I am avid Satin proponent, however for the AK I will leave the coating on-More protection for the SR-101

I will be at the strippers with a fistful of twenties approximately 3 seconds after getting mine...

And then I will do the AK-47...

Wow, flashback to a biker bar I should never have walked into... steering wheel on the ceiling and all. :o
Place is now a firearms store.

I've got a Ban regrind stripper AK. I still need to video halving a phone book with it. ;)
