Can you folks tell me how much the difference is in the two? I'm only going to be buying once, and i want something that will do pretty much everything. I'm very very new to these knives and know very little about the steel in either of them.

i want whatever i get to be suitable for everything from combat to cutting wood in a pinch. It will probably NEVER be used for either of those things, as i have a handgun for defense and several axes, machete's and a kukri for chopping wood, but the key term here is TOUGH

i'd like to know if the difference in quality warrants the $700 difference in price.

Also, if there is a close competitor to these two that you feel would be better than them, and it's less than $1150 please tell me about it and tell me why you think it's better

Whatever i want should have a roughly 20" blade and 10" handle.

Whatever i buy will be my go to blade for TEOTWAWKI endeavors.

Thanks again guys...

IMO no. The SR101 that Swamp Rat uses is really good. Maybe not quite as good as the INFI, but there aren't that many BUSSE's that I think are really worth the price.

The video posted by swamprat for the waki were extremely impressive. They chopped through what looks like a 15 inch tree and were able to cleanly slice paper effortlessly afterwards. It is differentually tempered, kind of like how original Japanese swords are, though a different process. INFI should be a touch tougher but it seems both are beyond the toughness of non-custom blades.

INFI will be much more resistant to rusting. The scrapyard also put out a sword.

The AK is worth the price. But it sure was a super sweet deal when it was direct! About 400 cheaper!

Every piece of Infi I have owned has been worth the price for sure. You can always get your money out of them as long as you buy at a decent price. (especially direct).

When you are looking at the Waki and Swamp Ruck, it is a pretty hard deal to pass up. You can get a Waki and Ruki for the same price as the AK.

The steel on the Swamprats is SR101, which is tough enough to do anything you need. Keeps a sharp edge about as long as infi. What you are giving up is corrosion resistance, and perhaps a bit of overall edge chip resistance (not much though).

The price point of the Swamprats is very hard to beat. Also, you might want to look at the scrapyard waki as well. Super tough and great price. Sr77 which is modified S7 (jack hammer bit steel...a super tough shock steel).

All three are worth the price.

For me, right now, I would probably either get a matched set of the swamprats or the scrapyards right now.

If you' re thinking about paying $1150 for an AK47 (or $700 more than for a Waki), I think you could do a whole lot better, unless you're looking for something special like a satin blade, or some rare color combo. I had three AKs listed on the exchange at $850 for a long time (only one of which sold) and there were several others listed in that price range. Some even came with sheaths at about that price or less.

do you still have one of em for sale?

Post a WTB thread. List what you are looking for, and a price. I bet you get some one send you a few PM's.

If you know how to use the search function, I believe there is a CG AK with a custom sheath for under 900 right now on the exchange (as of last time I checked tonight).

The sheath alone is probably worth $100+

I paid $900 for my CG AK and $800 for my original Ruck which was high but I didn't care because I wanted them. It wasn't a whole lot more than that for a satin set from a ganzaa. Ill pull a link in a second. A good sheath is easily worth $100 because it will cost at least that much to get one made and shipped and you don't have to wait.

Best Ganzaa ever. I got the A1/A2 set, UG, Chute, tried for a Weiner dog but wasn't fast enough.
