AK47 Weight difference

I recently got my satin/blackpaper AK47 (very nice blade). It is really light compare to my tan AK with G10. Does anyone know why? Is the G10 that much heavier?

G-10 is a lot heavier, and there is a lot of handle on the AK, so it's possible.

Oh I see. So it has nothing to do with the composition of the INFI at all? Also, is blackpaper similar to micarta? It certainly feels like it. Thanks for the reply oeser :)

Black paper IS micarta, the full name is Black paper micarta :)

Btw. I scored one of those as well, can't wait to get my hands on it!

The Satin blade might also be a little lighter since it would have been ground more to remove the dimples, and no coating.

I thought Busse started with thicker stock/Infi, with the satin blades to get the same or similar dimensions in the end product.

So black paper is G-10? I'm sooo confrused... Never mind...I've been drinking...

No.

Micarta is a composite consisting of cloth or paper layers and phenolic resin.

G10 is made up of glass cloth and epoxy resin.

I noticed a pretty significant difference in the weight of Wakis where the only difference was whether the handle was G-10 and Micarta. This very topic was discussed in the Swamp Rat forum here and here.

I would be curious to know which felt better on the Waki? Some seem to say Micarta and some say it's negligible. Any other opinions?

The black paper definitely feels a little better. I like it light and I can swing it faster.

Hey Bro, I have a Sage/Tan & a Blk/Blk G-10. I prefer the hilt weight in any knife (except a chopper) and the G-10 is where that is. There is a noticable difference to me in the two. The S/T in a beauty but if I had to pick between the two to head out the door with the G-10 is a must:thumbup::D.

It seems there is a split in philosophies here. I appreciate the input though. Which would be better for combat and not chopping. I'm not a sword guy and would probably never use it for chopping OR combat, just curious which would be better in that scenario (combat) a heavier handle or lighter handle?
