Thankyou Larry. This article just came out today. Any help to the Senator would help. It would be nice if there was a museum inclusive of the contributions of Schrade. It is even more important now to preserve this history since apparently the buyers of the Schrade collection had no intention of preserving it. It is understandable since much of what they sell is foreign made and as such I am sure these suppliers have no desire to preserve the history of a company that produced so many of the items that sent there relatives to a permanent visit to there ancestors. Also I am sure commeratives like the WWII edition did not increase there love of Schrade. LT

It's great to see someone trying to preserve a little of the history of our country at a time when most people are more interested in what team is going to win the game sunday.I would say well done but I think your task is just beginning.Great job.Toby

Is there some kind of a game Sunday? Just kidding. Thankyou I believe you are right. LT

LT & Larry,
Thanks for posting the info and pictures. They were great.

That is a great article !!
It's tragic that history is neglected in today's schools.I suspect that it's not politically correct to recount Japanese atrocities in the WW2 era.
It's even more upsetting to see that today's generations don't seem to be bothered about the loss of our manufacturing base and good middle-class jobs that go with it.All that is important is that we can buy "stuff " as cheap as possible.
If the article and pictures of the exhibits were available on a CD,with full dpi sharpness,I'd pay money for a copy.
Maybe contributions could be used to defray lobbying expenses.
Larry,
Thanks for posting it !

Ditto.

Have you perhaps considered locating the museum in a nearby state with more sensible knife laws? Many states allow private ownership of automatic knives for the purpose of collecting or displaying. The Minnesota Museum of Schrade Cutlery. Doesn't sound right, does it? But the possibility might light a fire under someone's ass.

Good Luck and Best Wishes,

I have considered just about as many alternatives as I could think of. New York state allows posession to any one with a legal NYS Hunting fishing or trapping license. You may also carry while engaged in these activitys or going to or from. So what does that mean? Do I have to keep them in my tackle box? Apparently I may possess them in my house ( since I may own them ). The fact is that No one will decern or explain what the law actually means or says. That is the crux of the problem. Please read the long article posted the Road to beauracy which Larry posted for me.

You see NO One will actually explain what is legal or isn't under this law. That is the problem No one wants to step up and either say OK its legal Or OK it is not. Either one would be fine. Because if deemed legal there is no problem. If not and it is taken into court all of these laws would be thrown out due to constitutional amendment rights. They know this and therefore will not give an answer instead they prefer to use the interpretation of these idiot laws as they find most suitable to there purpose, whim or individual interpretation for often self benefical reasons. There is no consistency. If you have the time please read the article it is in one of the recent threads.

I will not say that I would give my right arm for the legal right to carry one of these knives because another genius section of these laws says that if you only have one arm you may indeed do just that legally, I can also become an emt and carry and own. Also If I was in the military, and of course as a peace officer I may own by virtue of that status. Of course as a peace officer I may also carry a gun. However If no longer a peace officer I can get a pistol permit however the only permit available for this 100 year old knife is my fishing license. Which no one will clarify where I may store or display this item. It is a circle of stupidity. Now iF I own a hand gun pre 1890 I many carry it anywhere as long as ammo is no longer presently made or sold for it. However 100 year old knife with a 1 inch blade that uses a bobby pin type spring to assist opening is or may be ( since no one will clarify) illegal. Is it any wonder that none of these agencys have the balls to try to make any sense or clarify any of these issues. The Attorney Gen ( who was forced to answer an opinion I wrote for the municipality of Walden sent me to the NYS division of museums.) Then followed 2 years of promises to simply advise of a procedure for the display of these ( by law and tenant of a fishing license I am allowed to own ). Now a bill in its second year that I am not even sure the head of the senate committee even knows exists. Smoke and mirrors. Why would any law agency or any division of the state want to change a law that is enforcible upon the whim and inclination of any authority on any given day. Hell think how neat that is I mean for whatever reason personal political whatever you just decide to confiscate an article etch its blade with an evidence number and 2 years later the charges are dropped and you are given your defaced property back. Because that is what usually happens.

If you get a chance and can read the article it will at least explain what is really happening. Before you start to read it get a snack and something to quench your whistle because this article when it appeared in a magazine I write for it was 15 pages long. LT

They won't teach about Japanese atrocities but they will teach about the American "atrocity" of keeping the Japanese interned during WWII. Now I think the Japanese interment was a bad thing, but why don't they teach the whole truth of the historical context in which the interment occurred?
It is not POLITICALLY CORRECT.

I agree I would be interested in a copy of such a CD also.

LT,
It is interesting that "Liberal" Oregon has one of the strongest State Constitutions with regards to the right to keep and arm bears......err....bear arms. It is legal in the State of Oregon to carry a fully operational switch blade, (it may not be legal in some municipilities) even concealed, under specified blade length (I think 3 inches). It is also legal to sell them. A guy took it to the supreme court and successfully defended it on the grounds that a switch blade is an armament.
As you know Benchmade knives are made here, one of the reasons they can do it is Oregon's law regarding switch blades.
You could put your museum here in Oregon. (hint, hint) :D
Seriously, you can walk into a Sporting Goods store like Fishermen's Warehouse and buy a shopping cart full of automatics, not to mention assisted openers like CRKT's, Kershaw's, etc. You can even find assisted openers in Walmart. You can even find import cheapie automatics in some convenience stores. All this in the state that brought you Doctor assisted suicide!

I have spoken to Les deasis regarding that possibility. Obviously on a move like that I would need some help. However I never heard back why don't you ask him. It aint like I don't have the goods. LT
