I think there has been some confusion about the Art Knife Invitational show in San Diego so I will do my best to clearify.
The show is held every 2 years the last saturday in october, not every year. There are only 25 knifemakers in the show and 150 collectors are invited. The show lasts about 4 hours on saturday afternoon with food and drink catered throughout the show. Followed that evening with a very nice banquet. The next Art Knife Invitational is set for October 27, 2001.
The main purpose of this show is to get the makers to "outdo" themselves over what they normally make for other shows, give them totally free reign on their imaginations and let loose. As a result this show has provided some of the finest Art Knives ever made.
It has also been set up to try to accomplish the fairest chance for all who attend to get knives. No selling before the show and each piece is drawn for by the maker. The price of each piece is given in a very nice brochure that is given to the collectors at entry to the show. No collector has seen any of the knives til they walk into the show.
If any collectors have interest in finding out more about this show, please e-mail me and I will do my best to help.
I believe this show has sometimes been confused with the Art Knife Show in Florida that is held in January, but the 2 shows are not connected in any way.
