I mentioned that I scored a mint Akonua at a gun show yesterday so here are some pics. It really is a nice one. The booklet I found quite interesting because I hadn't seen or heard of one before.

One page in the booklet mentioned that the handle is laminated woodgrained micarta, however, this one is a Rosewood handle that we see on so many other various knives. It does not have the linen texturing that my black micarta Kalinga has.

Enjoy the THUMBNAILS! :D Click them once and then click that pic again.

Is that supposed to do something??? No effect here...
Is that something new at PhotoBucket???

Sometimes on my monitor, especially when someone posts a blade edge, the first click will look like what I will call a digital zig zag, The 2nd click will clean that up to what the edge should look like.

You may not see a lot of difference in mine as large as they are to start with, but on some that are smaller, you might see a significant increase in size.

I have seen this when I shoot in a lower res setting.

Maybe the others can throw out what they see in mine and some others buckets.

Yeah, the thumbnail thingie is simply a learning curve and worst of all, remembering it from one time to the next.... Is what happens to us older n dirt guys....lol

Will be glad to help anyone step through it if they want to shoot me a phone number and I have this call anywhere anytime same money, thing on my landline. PM or email.....now where is that speelcheekit thang....

May I ask... how much you paid for this Akonua?
Inquiring minds want to know. I keep looking at them on the Bay. They seem to go for $120.00 - $150.00. I have a nib Kalinga my wife gave me for Christmas about 10 years ago. He sure would like a friend.

Guys,,,I'll just say that for it to be a like new minty, I got it cheap. Least from what I have seen them go for on the bay. But don't think I have ever seen one this nice on the bay....

Bottom of the box doesn't even show any skuffing..

Dagger,,,does your Kalinga have the little booklet?

I am right in the middle of putting together the data sheet for both the 402 and 401. Can you tell me if this knife has a date code? Interesting that the booklete still says micarta when the handle is wood. It might be that they wanted to use up all those booklets and did not figure that it mattered about the handle material.

They didn't anticipate that one day there would be a bunch of picky guy's like us looking at all this stuff in minute detail huh Joe. ;)

Joe,

This one does not have a date code. Is a three liner Buck, Akonua, USA

I do have one tho that is identical to it, but not in mint condition. no box, no papers

It is also a three liner but does have a 1988 year code.

Hope this helps, Will be looking forward to the data sheet on these.,,,thanks!

You sure got that right my friend! ;)
Thanks for the date code info PR. I will add it to the pile. Here is a teaser on that data sheet...it looks like we might have a rare variation of both models to be looking for. More at 11...
