Recently picked up a Buck "Akonua", "new in the box"w/sheath and presentation type box can anyone tell me anything about it? Collector value? etc.

Looks like you picked a tough question for your first post in the Buck forum. And welcome to the forum!!!

I too just got in my first Akonua, but in user condition. Also have a couple of Kalingas, a nib w/stag and a user.

Don't really know why there isn't ever much discussion here about any of those. I know these guys have them.

Far as value, the standard answer seems to be "whatever a person will pay" or something to that effect. I go mostly by what I see on ebay, and that could vary widely.

Somedays a knife will go for a lot more than on other days. I see that a lot in the 560's.

The Kalinga was supposedly the favorite of Al Buck. The book about the Buck family talks about the yacht that was named Kalinga. And how the Kalinga is favored among bikers. But little about the Akonua.

Maybe some of the others will chime in here.

I guess I should have just asked the question...
Does the Kalinga ride high on the belt to the point that the handle jabs your lower rib cage, or does it hang low where the handle is near the top of the belt?
