Akti is it worth joining

I have been to the AKTI web site and know it is recommended by A. G. Russell but still have limited information on the institute such as,
how many members do they have and how effective are they in lobbying against unreasonable laws. Oh ya is the number that appears at the signature (i.e. AKTI#0000945) is that the number of members or a random number assinged to each member?

I've been wondering myself. I have been meaning to join but, as yourself, I'm not sure how much it would benefit me as an individual.
 
I kinda been wondering myself, sure you see those numbers at the bottom of someones post every once in a while but i've seen next to nothing about the Institute and i'm kinda wondering why, since it is an oragnization that helps protect everything we talk about here on the forums.

I think it's a good organization.(check my signature line;) )It does a considerable amount of lobbying on knife-related issues. As far as I know, it's the only group out there representing our concerns.

I have no idea of the actual numbers. Many of the major contributing members are dealers/manufacturers who make considerable $$$ input.
 
OK, I will ask the stupid question:
"What is AKTI?"
"American Knife - - -?"
Where can one find information?
