This weekend I left ECCKS with only a couple of tiger coral scales and a wad of cash, but no new knives

. I went to the bar downstairs and ran into a friend who was having a beer with Al Dippold. I joined them and had a few beers, talked about knives, hunting, the show, etc. Just before Al left to meet some friends for dinner, he pulled out a folder he was especially proud of.

I bought it from him right there.

This knife is simply incredible! The beautiful upswept damascus blade; the mosaic damascus bolsters; the gold lip mother of pearl handle scales; the fileworked pins, backspacer, liner, and thumbstud with citrine stone inlay; they all came together in one incredible package.

And Al's a great guy to boot.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll enjoy this one for a long time, and so naturally, I wanted to share my new find with all of you.

So, without further ado, here it is:

It's similar to the "shifting lines" mosaic damascus folder currently for sale on Knifeart here, only mine is way nicer

Great folder Wulf from an excellent maker. Congratulations.

Great knife, better story! Looks like the formula for a keeper. Why can't I be so lucky? (Maybe because I can never make it to any major knife shows

I'm a nut about pearl. Got to say that one scale you've shown in your pictures is the prettiest piece of pearl I've ever seen. Is the other scale a good match? (I assume so, but am trying to get you to give us a picture of it.

Thanks very much for sharing your great luck with us! A really gorgeous knife!

Thanks for the kind words guys. This knife truly is one of my pride and joys, and the memory of how I acquired it will make it more *mine* than if I had just ordered it from an on-line dealer.

Richard, I didn't have the heart to haggle with Al over price. He quoted me a level and I felt the knife was well worth it, but you were kidding anyway, right?

Blademan, what's your excuse for not coming down to ECCKS? You can't be much farther north than I am.

Bugs - the other side is nicer

. The scales match very well. It's fun just to twist the knife slowly in my hand, watching the light play off the scales.

This will be my carry knife on those special occasions... and any other occasion/reason/excuse I come up with to show it off

Al typically forges all of his own damascus. That blade is one of the more unique and interesting pieces of damascus I've seen on a gents folder in a while. It almost has a miniaturized whiff of the Sutton Hoo sword thing going on if that means anything to you. Very cool.

(Nick Smolen does some really great carbon damascus too).

And the flowing lines of the design are great. Not to mention the gold lip MOP.

I saved a couple of those pics in my knife pic folder....high praise indeed.

You scored, big. Great knife. Very tastefully executed.
