Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, this is my first post, so I hope I'm in the appropriate discussion area.

I recently inherited a 10th anniversary Al Mar knife set from a family member.

I have had no luck finding any information on these sets. hoping some of you can help me out or point me in the right direction to find the info.

I know the basics, blades manufactured in Seki Japan, most likely AUS6 steel, etc.

What I would like to know is how many of these sets where originally produced.

DETAILS:

Three knives in a wooden case, etched on the bolsters are Dragon, Tiger, Horse.

DRAGON: 12 3/4 inch tactical knife with Dragon logo etched on the obverse bolster.
TIGER: 10 1/4" Fang II dagger with Tiger logo etched on the obverse bolster.
HORSE: 8 3/4" (open) Eagle Talon Folder with Horse logo etched on the obverse bolster.

There is a certificate of authenticity with the set but it is mostly written in Japanese, in English it says "Al Mar Knives 1979 - 1988 10th Anniversary"

I will try to post a pic if I can figure out how to do it.

Thanks
Kevin

Beautiful set...but finding a value may be tough. The only true value is what someone is willing to pay for them and find a set of these that has sold recently to see what the selling price was could be hard to do. You can watch ebay and hope a set comes up as well as some of the other auction sites. You could also...and this is the best way I think, ask Mr Levine (this is his forum) to evaluate them. He does charge for this service but in this case it would be very beneficial, especially for insurance purposes, to have a written appraisal from a known expert.

look here: http://knife-expert.com/appr-k.htm#have it

Thanks,

I should clarify; at this point I'm not overly concerned with determining a value, just looking for general information / history on the set.

I realize of course that the total number of sets produced will reflect on the overall value to certain degree.
