Just to confirm: Is the Al Mar belt buckle knife out of production forever?

When was it manufactured?

How much would it cost NIB now and how much was it back then?

Reason why I'm asking all these is because I was busy in a meeting and lost out on a ebay item....Still kicking myself now....

What a day.....

Sean:(

Huh? No one knows that Al Mar used to have a buckle knife?

Model name is something like "Executive Belt Buckle Knife"...

Hi Sean,

The last listing I have was 41.50 discounted, so add a bit on to that. It was part of the 6000 series.

I don't have any info on the Al Mar belt buckle knife but there is a manufacturer still making them. Bowen Knife Co., Magnolia, AR, lists them in several configurations for $34. They also offer companion belts but I didn't get the costs. They also don't mention the steel used but I believe its one of the 440 series. Their web site is http://www.bowenknife.com/ They only list the belt buckle knives on their web site so I guess they have discontinued all their other models.

I had one of their Loveless drop point hunter look-alikes about 25 years ago and it was well made of 440C.

Hi Sean,

I made a small mistake in the other post, it is the 7000 series it was part of(7002). The retail was $59.50, it's a small folder that fits into a zytel case.

Thanks! It's quite rare, I believe. I came across it on an Ebay auction just 2 days ago with 10 minutes to spare but had to attend a meeting.

Been looking around for it for a long long time but can't seems to find it anywhere. There's some Gerber ones going for very high prices on Ebay but very few are NIB.

But there seems to be no interest in this Al Mar vintage at all on this forum. I wonder why... By the way. when is the last production date for this knife?
When the great Mr Mar was still around?
Any details on the knife (variations, steel, etc)?

Technically, if it's on the buckle, it not considered "concealment" and I think it's a very handy way of carying an EDC.

What do you guys think?

Sean

The reference I was using was from '97. I'm guessing it would have been gone a bit after that(99?), when the other older models were phased out.

The interest in older Al Mar's I've noticed on these forums tends to run towards the tactical stuff, especially the S.E.R.E. models.

The Buckle was'nt advertised heavily, either, I would'nt of remembered it if I had'nt read up on Mar a bit back.

I don't really know what a belt buckle knife, but if you carry that around, I think the local LEOs may not be too happy with you. I think buckle knives are considered concealed weapons, like shurikens, darts. I'm sure you also watched the recent news segment on the air cargo inspection of parcels. I saw krises being x-rayed and all.

Well, the blade is only about 1.25" ao it look pretty harmless.

But if the buckle is made of zytel, how strong can it be? I thought brass or some typical belt-buckle metal would be a better choice.
