Hi,

I tried this thread at the general forum, but no one seems to be able to help me, so I hope this place is better.

I just bought an Al Mar Border Patrol fixed blade knife with a 5” blade. I know it is an older model but I like the look and feel of it. Have any of you any experience with this knife. I have not been able to find any info on the Internet so I hope someone at the forum can help me. Any info is welcome.

Regards Carl-Christian

hi carl

i don't own a border patrol myself, although as a regular Al Mar-fanatic i might give you some interesting information........

first of all, the older, discontinued, al mar-models are all more or less valuable collector's items. since alfred clark mar died, the production of knives got more into modern folders than cool fixed blades. any older al mar fixed blade, apart from the new sere operator that is, is wort money. they are in fact collector's items. so i'd say: hang on to your border patrol, and KEEP it. thought this particular model isn't one of the most valuable al mar's, it's probably still at least 50% more money worth than you spent on it.

some further info on the border patrol: this knife has been sold in 3 variations.....the m30, m40 and m50. the steel is AUS6 and the handle is made of some kind of wood (duh.....you can see that for yourself right?).

m30: 5.7" blade
m40: 5.5" blade
m50: 6.7" blade

info on the BP on the web is very hard to find, you won't find more than online-shops stating what it's made of and what it costs....

furthermore, here are some nice links to interesting al mar-related sites from japan......have fun:

well, hope you know a little more about your knife right now!

no problem carl. i like to help people who know a good knife when
they see it, and al mars are good. by the way, al mar folders from before 1992 are also worth money, i forgot to mention that in my earlier posts. have fun owning your border patrol!
