Al Mar Damascus Santoku - Keep and use or sell?

I get knives as gifts a lot. This AM SS Ultrachef is one of them. Anyone have experience with these? Are they as good as they look? Supposed to be 33 layers over cobalt steel. Any insight is appreciated.

I love vintage AL MAR stuff... That is sure purety)!! Wish I could provide insight... I only know about the tactical stuff

If it is cobalt and Japanese, then there is a 99% of it being VG-10. AL-MAR sometimes goes for a bit more than comprable knives from other manufacturers at retail prices, but you won't be able to recover that difference by selling, and it is a decent knife, and it was a gift, so you should keep it.
