I recently took a Delta flight to Washington D.C. for a business trip, and I had no idea what I was carrying in my carry-on bag...That's right, an Al Mar Sere Operator! For those of you unfamiliar with this knife, it's a big friggin' fixed blade complete with sheath & Tek-Lok. I had gone canoeing before my trip to D.C. and must have left the knife in the side pocket of my bag. What's odd is they made me take all of my toiletries out and put them in a separate bag and scanned my bag for a second time! So there I am sitting on the plane half way through my fight...I reach in my bag in front of me (not stowed) for a magazine and I felt something in the side pocket. Then, I looked down to see what it was...HOLY SHIT!!! Anyway, the Homeland Security Advisory System was at the Orange (high) level for risk of terrorist attacks on that day, and needless to say...Even though completely unintentional,I felt pretty lucky to be carrying what I am now calling my Delta Operator!
Even though I would never want to carry a knife that size on the plane, I personally feel that everyone should have the right to carry a knife on the plane (don't bash me if you disagree, it's just my personal opinion). Think about it...I'm not a terrorist, but if I was, I would have potentialy been the only person on the plane with a big ass knife!!! I would love to hear from others who have been in this situation. I just think it's a cool story, and there's probably a lot more of them!
