Hi there,

Just recently start collecting AL MAR knives, and purchase this Al Mar recently. When I compare it to my other Al Mar knives, this one does not have any marking other the the Al Mar stamp on the blade. Is this authentic? If so, what is the model name.

Also, the sheath have some marking on the back, "A M K, O R C A, P P" and no other marking. What does those letters stand for? I assume AMK is probably Al Mar Knives, what about the rest.

Below are pictures of the knife, let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.

1980's SERE knife. This appears to be the smaller of the SERE sizes available back then. Knife is legit but I do not believe the sheath is. 1980's SERE knives came with mostly leather molded sheaths. The only early SERE sheath I have seen that was not leather was a molded nylon camo pattern sheath. Yes AMK=Al Mar Knives. "Orca" and "PP" I couldnt tell you most likely the manufacturer of the aftermarket sheath and a size reference. The knife looks to be in great shape so good score!

It's correct, it's a SERE 3002 medium size. No clue on the sheath stuff. P.S. - This is the LE (law enforcement) version which is 40 % serrated.

Looks to me like the small SERE Attack from the '80's. I think they made three sizes.

Thanks for the info, I actually have the larger version of Sere Attack, but the profile of the blade looks a little different, and that one does comes with a leather sheath. Anyone know if there is a complete list of all Al Mar, that way I can start looking for them.

Here is the other Sere Attack that I have, this one have the marking of Seki Japan on the blade.

good luck on finding an accurate and complete model list. You may want to actually call AMK for this info. Remember, AMK is only staffed by 5 or 6 people in the Pacific Northwest. All the knives are made in Seki Japan under contract by Moki. Hell I sent in one of my SERE 2000's to them for pivot adjusting I just couldnt get right and AMK president himself Gary Fadden is the one that actually did the work.

AMK have contracted out 6 different companies to actually manufacture the knives since 1979. This is why finding specific info and product lists gets pretty confusing sometimes. Then there is when Al Mar passed away in 1992 to when Gary Fadden bought the company there was model confusion etc.

There will be a tremendous group of vintage Al Mar knives and their collectors available at OKCA beginning this Friday (members only), Saturday and Sunday open to the public in Eugene, OR. http://www.oregonknifeclub.org/site_map.html. I am a member of Oregon Knife Collectors Association and I've been attending and greatly enjoying the annual show for many years. The Chairman of the show, Dennis Ellingson, is brilliant, capable and I can vouch for him.

For example: Gary Fadden, President of Al Mar Knives, will be at table Y01. If you are a serious enthusiast you might consider making tracks to the annual show. There are 360 tables and more than one will sport AL Mar knives and Al Mar collectors.

I will attempt to speak with Gary and suggest this thread to him. Perhaps he will want to chime in. I expect to attend Sunday.

Would you happen to know which companies they might be. Apart from AMK long relationship with G.Sakai I haven'nt been able to
get mich info on this. Thanks.

Thanks very much. Kencrest as far as I know is not a maker, although JI is the president of Mcusta.
Yes Moki is making the AMK folders but I'm not sure about the fixed.
Still trying to determine which AMKs were made by Hattori. Some have suggested that the
AMK SOG bowies were his.

I visited the Al Mar table yesterday, Sunday, at OKCA. Gary was not present at the table but nearby. I never saw him. Stupidly, I didn't have a picture to show the Al Mar employee at the table and I don't have a smart phone. Sorry, no joy.

Some photos, note the first pic with the target folder, I believe, and the multi-tool. All from yesterday's OKCA:

I have a similar case that has a Al Mar combo tool in it and it also has writing in red on the back. I was told it was a proto type
