Heyz People,
I just purchase my first Al Mar knife today, a Gunstock Model folder....but what I am curious about is the material name, I was told by my dealer that it isn't made from ATS34, 154CM...etc
Just curious, do any of you knife knuts know what material it is made from? anyway, I feel that it is a very cool knife for me, and I really love the fit and finish on this piece...

Thanks in Advance...

Hi,

An old catalog I have list the steel as AM-6. This was Al mar's own name for the steel, which was said to be close to Aus-6.

Heyz BoB Bowie..thanks for the reply...kinda impressive to hear that such great knife makers like Al Mar didn't go for steels like ATS34..etc....do you have any other information on the steel? like as in RC, Performance, and how does it compare to other more common steels like ATS34, CPM440v etc?....
Thanks In Advance...:)

Hi,

The steel proform's very well, The Rockwell hardness was some where around 57-59RC. If I remember correctly the Gunstock model's were introduced in the late 1980's, and the AUS steel's were considered excellent at the time. ATS-34, 154cm, etc... were not used at the time, although Mar used it on certain knives (Elite, Wooodsman, Etc...). Most cutlery steel's will proform well if edged, and heat treated well, which Mar always did.

Hope this help's!!!
