hi guys i have not been on here in a while. but long story short i recently reduced my collection quite a bit and am looking to have fewer knives that i will use more instead of a bunch that sit around.

I have been looking at the Al Mar SERE operator.
what i like- Full tang, handle material will not be hurt by elements, love the nylon sheath with liner and pouch on the front(not a kydex fan), the blade is not coated black (im not a fan of that either). smooth edge, sleek design but still appears that it is a blend of a fighter and survival knife.

on the other hand i have never owned an al mar or seen one to hold it, does anyone have pics or opinions on this blade for a all around knife.

thanks guys

As far as I know all Al Mar knives are made it japan, it is a japanese company.

I've handled the Al Mar SERE Operator SRO-S in S30V before and I think it's made in the USA. The VG-10 version (with 3 lanyard holes in the handle) are most likely made in Japan.

i think that may be the difference. the one i saw made in USA is S30V and the one in Japan is VG-10. i sent al mar an email. and tomorow morning im going to call the guy with the one that says USA and if it is US made ill get it on the way. if it is not ill continue on my search. Chris Reeves green beret is similar and has the same style sheath, but it has a black blade, but i may have to get over that

Any Al-Mar I have handled has rivaled US knives in the same price range. I dont think I would shy away from a Japanese blade they usualy high quality especialy from a reputable company like Al-Mar

I am sure it is a great knife regardless of where it was made. but i just sold off all my knives to go all american made. So im gonna stick to it. not that i dont think the quality would be any less just that i dont want to send anymore money than absolutely necessary overseas anymore.

We stop buying Japanese and Chinese products, their countries stop buying United States treasuries. China is #1 holder of U.S. treasuries, Japan is #2.

The point, we stop buying their products, they stop sending us boatloads of money to pay for all of our debt. The U.S. used to be the biggest creditor nation, now we are the largest debtor nation.

They stop buying our treasuries, we go KABOOM, overnight.

[sarcasm]Good plan.[/sarcasm]

I believe they are headquartered in Oregon. As far as I can tell, they are an American company. The Japanese VG-10 is amazing. My SERE Operator is by far my nicest knife. Also, you should call them. They are sort of old school that way. They take a while to respond to emails. Especially non critical ones.
