I just picked up a small Al Mar lock back listed on the box as model 1002WM. I believe it is a "Falcon" and has white micarta scales. It is listed as "102 of 200", but I can't find anything to tell me what is limited about it. Any help would be appreciated- I have already been to their website. Thanks, Mike

As I understand it, when Al Mar introduces a new model/variation, they number the first 200 pieces. These numbered pieces don't indicate a limited edition and shouldn't be more valuable than the un-numbered ones.

When Al Mar does a new knife, there are two hundred preproductions ordered, They are special as they are the first run! And this definately adds to their collector Value! This Pre-Production run started back in the beginning when Al was alive, He would order 200 and send them to his best dealers, collectors and freinds in the business to gauge there response as a production knife! Early on they were marked PP 102/200, a few years later the PP was dropped. If the knives were well received they would go into regular production! There were other, Pre-Production Prototypes made and were engraved as such and these are even more desired and command more money!

Thanks guys.

Any idea why this didn't fit in "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades- Discussion of classic Hunters, Trappers, Lockbacks, Slipjoints, Skinners and other classic designs"?

Al Mar knives don't date back far enough to be considered "traditional". That and he put the lock release someplace besides where it is on a Buck 110, so they can't be traditional ;). I really like the Al Mar Falcon, it is just the right size for a gentleman's folder.
