I'm a new member to the forum and quite frankly and am really impressed with the knowledge and helpfulness I've experienced here. Thanks to all.

I've been collecting knives for about 15 years now and buy them based on their feel, looks and brand name if I recognize it. About 2 months I purchased an Al Mar knife for $3.50 at a local garage sale in what I would consider in fairly good condition with a 1/2"x3/4" piece of wood taken from the handle. It's dimensions are as follows: 11 1/4" blade length, 2" at it's widest portion, .2355" thick (blade), 5.062" thick wood handle with 2 rivets securing it to the blade with one additional metal lined hole, it also has a metal handleguard .203". The wood handle is made of some type of dark hardwood.

I would send some pictures but my 8 years old grandson decided to overhaul my camera so any assistance in identifing it and its general value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe the Alaskan Bowie but the details don't match up right. It has a 12" blade and three brass pins no hollow tube. Oal is 17.25". Check this page from the old catalog.

I can not find an AM Knife in their catalog with an 11.25" long blade at all. Some 10" and some 12" and not many with wood handles. I think pictures might be the only way to tell.

Thanks so much for the info. Everything matches with the exception of the length. I believe that at one time the tip might have been bent and was trimmed and re-contoured. Looks to have been done professionally. Where can I find more info? Once again, thanks so much.

Could it be a fixed blade SERE?
