Just saw an ad for the new Al Mar fixed blade. Looks just like the SERE 2000, only bigger and obviously doesnt fold. The question I have is, why did they not use the VG10 steel that has become so popular in their SERE 2000 folder? I realize that 154CM is still good steel, but the VG10 is better.

where did you see this knife....Ive been looking forward to a new Al Mar fixed but the old ones are so hard to find

Not sure why, Dan. I saw a couple of these sweet blades at a gun show about a month ago. Not sure why they didn't use VG-10. Maybe for price reason? Maybe availbility of VG in that thickness?

Pretty sure I saw the ad in the newest Blade mag. I'll probably get one anyway, but really think it would have been better in VG10. If I'm not mistaken, VG10 is a little stronger than the 154CM anyway. It must have been a cost related measure.

I've been waiting for this one for over a year!!! Blade length is 5". Al Mar originally intended to use VG-10, but opted for 154cm due to pricing targets for the knife (at least that's what they told me when I called them).

You can see a pic on the Al Mar site.

I've been waiting for the SERE Operator, too. I'm sorry the blade won't be VG10, but it's still a "must have" item for me. Looks like a helluva knife.

The new Al Mar fixed is the Operator and basically is a fixed SERE
2000.It is the rebirth of some of his medium fixed blades and
depending where you look very reasonably priced.

My new Operator arrived today great blade $105.00 which included
the shipping.Al Mar is smiling from above.

That looks like a great knife and a great price. I almost curse myself for selling a SERE VII almost eight years ago:( Boy, was I stupid. Back to the point, the knife looks like Am Mar would definitely be happy.

Wow thats a great price does 1sks have em yet??

vg-10, thats what you use on a knife MADE IN JAPAN

If it is 154CM that probably means it is made in the USA, if it were japanese it would be ats-34

I am curious to know the overall thickness of the blade tang and scales together. Where is its point of balance? How about a pic of the sheath? Thanks.
