Hello,

New to the forum. My name's Dale Ritter, I'm in Rhode Island. I've only ever successfully made anything out of wood, and only large peices. But I'm into knives and I have a dremel, and I have a hard time not messing with, and often messing up, the things I love.

A pretty basic question, I think. Does anyone know how the thumbstuds on the Al Mar Nomad are attached? I'd like to take off the one that's there for lefties, and of course make that side of the blade as flat as possible. I don't mind if I can still see the butt end of the screw(?) that holds on the remaining thumbstud.

I'd appreciate any advice, including "don't try it, you'll screw it up for sure".

Thanks folks.

This one has dual thumbstuds and you want to just have one on the right-handed side, correct?

You can certainly do this yourself. Best way is to get 2 sets of large pliers and tape some padding to the jaws, then with the knife in a vice, or held down with a C-clamp, etc., hold the one side tight while you rotate the other side. They'll come right off.

Then you'll need to see what the thread pitch is, and purchase a one-sided thumbstud to replace it.

They talk about this kind of stuff all the time at the forum on www.knifekits.com

Go for it and let us know how it goes!

I was not aware of that site. What a bunch of cool stuff! I'll do a before/after pic set and post it. Thanks for the rapid and helpful reply.
