A few words & a few crappy pic´s .

Excellent fit & finish , my pic´s don´t do it justice .

Sharp as a razor out of the box , full flat grind !

Lockup was right on the money , loud "CLAK" when opened !

Pointy part of the handle .

capagaabd.jpg

The design feels a bit sculptural and modernistic , I like that .

After some cutting and handling , I have moved this knife to my EDC
rotation , the choil is a bit small, but it works , I´m getting a good grip
on the handle in all manners , upp , down , pikal, anything , it works .
Very good design and nice grippy G-10 .

I recommend it , well worth the money .

My first "review" , please be gentle !

I am more traditional slippie than tactical type folder, however, I dig Al Mar knives! So far I have only bought my wife a MOP Osprey, but she uses it! Your review sucks because now I want a knife that I can't afford right now.:mad::mad: My wallet has put you on ignore! :D:D:D

Kiddings of course, nice review.:o

I have a nomad and I like it a lot too! My only real gripe is that the finger choil is way too small. The blade is also a bit off-center in mine when it's closed, but it's not too bad. The blade snaps open wicked-fast and with authority!

Like your pic's, and review.
Thanks for reminding me of this knife. Long ago I almost bought one, forgot it since. I do like VG10.
Is it ground thin at the edge like a Spyderco?

The choil is on the small side , but it works for me ,
about the blade centering, mine is also a little of , not touching anything , but I think that has to do with that strong linerlock,
pushing it .

Thanks gull wing !

I checked the edge , comparing it to a grey frn calypso Jr. , it´s about the same , could not see any difference in thickness , hope that helps !

You're right, it is because of the liner lock... it is pushed off-center by it closed. Mine doesn't touch anything either. It has a very, very, very nice liner lock, by the way-I am very happy with mine.

Mine has the black coating on the blade, but if I had to do it over again I'd buy the uncoated version.. the coating is kind of a weird textured surface that looks nice but tends to attract lint for some reason-I've also grown out of my "every blade must be coated" phase.

Like you say , a very nice lock !

How does the coating hold up to use ?

I've been babying it too much to tell how well it'll hold up to use, but on the corners where the grind meets the spine and even on the spine you can see some "sparkle" of the steel. It really is a very odd coating, it is very matte compared to any other coating I've ever seen, which tend to be hard and glossy. It also seems to be a very thin coating. I just haven't used it enough to really tell... I do think it will show wear well, but don't think it will be very durable.

I don't know much about Al Mar knives except Al Mar passed away some time ago. Is this one of his designs or a new design for the company?

P.S. I liked your review. Your comparison shoot compared it to two kinda rare knives so is probably lost on most folks. IMHO, comparing to a fairly common knife like a Spyderco Delica or whatever the similar of Benchmade or Kershaw would be more helpful to others.

But I have both of the knives you compared it to so now know how big it is. :D

It's a Kirk Rexroat design for the Al Mar company. Several of their current models are Rexroat designs. I agree that the Nomad is a very nice knife, BTW. Extremely light for a folder with full SS liners. Mine came "lethal sharp" (as STR says) O-O-B and was as good a pure slicer as any of my Spydercos.

Al Mar's liner lock is excellent, too. I have as much confidence in their LL quality as I do in Spydercos.

Ahhh I see that now. I like the design. It almost reminds me of several other knives, but when trying to name them I can't. Kind of like trying to identify all the spices in a well made recipe.

Thanks guys for the info !

Zen , I changed the comparison pic , perhaps more helpful now .

I really like the Nomad. Good people, too.

At Blade 2007, my disabled daughter (traumatic brain injury from a hit and run) took out a Nomad to show me at the motel. Turns out that she was talking to the guys at the Al Mar booth when she mentioned that her birthday was coming up in a couple of weeks. They handed her the Nomad and said "happy birthday."
