Al mar.. real or not

my opinion is:
DEFINATELY not authorized SERE made for AL MAR knives in the USA back in the 90s..
The SHEATH Was definately never sold with that knife when sold in USA..

I am betting it could be a knock off.. However most of the knockoffs were made by the same company G.Sakai who produced AL MARs designs back in the day..
however AL MAR did not mess around. He was very picky on what he sold.. Knives had to be right or they were returned... This more than likely was not a USA authorized version

Personally i would use caution unless u can get it for 100$ then u can compare it to another...

Wow thanks, now Im glad i asked :)

Well, the easy part is that the Al Mar SERE is VG10, not 440C, so that's a definite fake.

The first SERE knives were not VG10. Al Mar had no control over what Sekai did with the brand outside the U.S and there are a number of models that were never imported here. I remember asking Al about a knife I had seen in a Japanese magazine and, design wise, it was totally news to him. Eventually, the models did show up here.

It depends on what you mean by "real" or "fake". Is it a SERE that we imported in to the U.S. before 1992 while my father was alive? The stuff guys collect? Doubtful.

Is it a SERE made for a market other than the U.S.? Yes, probably. The sheath is helpful

G.Sakai did not knock off our product. They had the distribution rights outside the U.S. That's how we see Pathfinders with "FBI" etched on the blades for example.

Awesome info RyAnne! I also wondered about the FBI on the pathfinders... In one of your USA AL MAR Catalogs page 11
there is a QUEST V "Hamagure" (black and white catalog)

This has to be the RAREST QUEST I never hear anyone talk about it, and I have never even seen a color pic of the internet..
This one must never been mas produced.. ANy insite?
Thanks

Right, the Quest V. Model #4011E.

Made it to the SHOT Show and catalog, but not to regular production...

Cool to see a bit of the history on Al Mar knives and production. Thanks RyAnne

Sounds like a QUEST V Model 4011E with some type of TWIST would be a HIT especially since it would come from the MAR family!! I know i would buy one!
TELL ME WERE TO PAYPAL.. Just saying!! Seriously... Love to see it.
